Former Apple CEO John Sculley intends on launching all new smartphone brand in India which is yet unnamed. The same will be headed by Ajay Sharma who was HTC India's head once and then was in charge of Micromax’s smartphone division. The new brand will launch a slew of smartphones this year alongside some feature phones with the first phone coming out in April 2014.

John Sculley

The funding for the company will come courtesy of the Singapore-based Inflexionpoint which is an investment and acquisition firm and has Sculley as its founding partners. Ajay Sharma on the other hand is believed to have formed a team of professionals from the pool of his colleagues from his days at HTC and Micromax.

The smartphones will be priced between Rs 5,000 and Rs 15,000 and we still have our concerns about as to how would the company be able to differentiate itself from the rest. Ajay Sharma in reply to the same states that the upcoming devices will come shod with a different USP and positioning as compared to the existing brands like Micromax, Karbonn, Gionee and the likes.

The Indian smartphone market is growing at a pretty fast pace with better smartphones touching lower price points and people becoming aware about the same. There is still a lot of scope for growth in the smartphone arena and the experience of the duo, John Sculley and Ajay Sharma in understanding consumers will surely help the new brand gain a strong footing.
