Google is pushing out an update to the Play Store for Android with version 3.10.14. The difference in size compared to the previous version 3.10.10 from a bit over 2 months ago is about 14KB, and after ripping through the APK, I found no significant changes. There are some tweaks to the billing code, but from what I can tell, this is a bug fix release.

It would appear that Samsung will indeed be showing off their fabled Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet this coming week at Mobile World Congress 2013. SlashGear got a sort of spy-shot of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 being blasted on a large screen inside the new MWC Convention Location – the show still being set up in a very large way. True to what we've seen in several leaked bits and pieces over the past couple of weeks, this device is everything you might expect it to be – with an 8-inch screen!

Samsung’s Galaxy S4 is believed to be less than a month away, and the rumor mill has thrown up a set of new third-party cases that supposedly give a clue as to the hotly-anticipated smartphone’s form-factor. The shots, leaked to UK retailer MobileFun by a “Trusted” accessory manufacturer in China, hint at a device that returns to the crisper, more squared-off aesthetic of the Galaxy S II, rather than the “pebble” design of the current Galaxy S III.

HTC One Ultrapixel Camera Explained

When HTC designed their newest flagship phone "HTC One", it knew that camera quality was one of the most important features on a smartphone.  HTC showed this kind of care in design last year with its release of the One S and One X; two phones that really showed serious improvements to not only image quality, but software quality.  New features like taking full-resolution photos during 1080p video recording, burst shots and many more advanced features really set the One line apart from the rest of the pack, but it wasn't enough to make a splash in the pool of Samsung’s Galaxy S III launch.  HTC has gone back to the drawing board and come up with their answer to this problem: The Zoe Camera with Ultrapixels.

Samsung Wi-Fi Only Galaxy Camera Launched

Samsung has decided that the world does need a Wi-Fi only version of the Galaxy Camera. All the specs seem to line up with the current model that you can buy except without the LTE and HSPA+ support or the need for a carrier data plan. Even their press release states the same thing.  With the removal of the carrier need technology, it should bring the price of the camera down quite a bit. Samsung didn't mention pricing or a launch date just yet.

LG Posts New MWC Teaser on YouTube, Focuses More on L, F, V & G Letters

Wednesday, February 20, 2013

LG isn't done making vague hints at what it's got in store for us in Barcelona next week. While we admittedly missed it on our first viewing, the latest trailer flies past several red initials and vague glimpses of four handsets. There's an L (style?), a G (greatness), one V (view) and a new one, F, that apparently stands for freedom. In short, it looks like LG might be bringing quite a few phones to the show. The short video also places plenty of emphasis on tags, which we're guessing will involve some NFC tech -- possibly expanding on those "Tag On". We just wish the message was as loud and clear as the music in the teaser. You've been warned.

WhatsApp Messenger Released New Beta APK File with Holo Interface

Sunday, February 17, 2013

Popular cross-platform messenger service WhatsApp is a little behind the times. It's part of the depressingly huge collection of Android apps that ape their iOS counterparts, never aspiring to anything higher. That appears to be close to an end, as the latest beta release of the Android client has a new user interface, and it conforms to the Holo guidelines that the rest of your phone (hopefully) uses.

HTC Launch for its Flagship HTC One/M7 handset is 2 Days away, and while we recently saw the device codenamed M7 in its Silver Garb, we’re now getting a first look at the black incarnation. There’s no significant new information to accompany the imagery, save for the fact that it seems to once again confirm the final design (complete with unique two-button layout) and the 19th Feb as its debut. It appears to be an American press shot, as opposed to the silver version’s, which displayed London as the city.

There has been some concern over AdBlock Plus and how automatically redirects your phone’s proxy to a localhost to block ads. This led to a bigger issue of a large security hole inside of the Android operating system. Even if a smartphone isn't rooted, apps could use this security bug for phishing. The developer of AdBlock Plus proposed a few resolutions for the issue that would both fix the security hole, and also allow the AdBlock Plus app to keep working.
