Xiaomi Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime with 13MP camera, 4100mAh battery launched in India

Xiaomi has officially launched the ultra-affordable Xiaomi Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime in the Indian market earlier this week. The Redmi 3S was originally launched in China back in June and after two months, the device has made its way to India. The device features mid-range specs and is priced very aggressively.

The key difference between Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime is the RAM, internal storage and fingerprint scanner. Xiaomi has priced the Redmi 3S in India at Rs. 6,999, whereas the Redmi 3S Prime will cost you Rs. 8,999.

Xiaomi officially announces Redmi Pro with FHD OLED display, dual cameras, 4050mAh battery

Xiaomi last week at an event in China officially took the wraps of its flagship smartphone in Redmi series. Called Xiaomi Redmi Pro, the smartphone is a new addition in companies Redmi lineup and comes with dual rear camera setup. Featuring top-notch specs and premium build, the Redmi Pro starts at 1499 Yuan in China.

The device is now available in China in three color options - Gold, Silver and Gray. Xiaomi is launching the Redmi Pro in three different variants, the standard, the high-end and the premium.

Talking about the device now, Xiaomi Redmi Pro is made up of brushed metal and comes with 2.5D curved glass display. On the front, we have fingerprint scanner embedded inside the home button. Both power and volume buttons are placed on the right side of the device, with SIM card tray on the left.

Bottom we have USB Type-C port accompanied by speaker and microphone, with top holds secondary microphone, 3.5mm headphone jack and infrared sensor.

Samsung to launch Galaxy Note7 in India on August 11th

After announcing the Galaxy Note7 at Unpacked 2016 event earlier this week, Samsung has now started sending out press invites to the Indian tech press media for the launch of Note 7 in the country. As per the invite, Samsung will be launching the Galaxy Note 7 in India on August 11th. The event is scheduled to take place in New Delhi.

According to Samsung India website, the South Korean giant will be launching the dual-SIM variant of Note 7 in India on August 11th.

The device is expected to go on sale soon after the launch, mostly starting August 19th, the day Note 7 will be available in-stores globally. We are expecting Samsung prices the Note 7 under Rs. 60,000.

As scheduled, Samsung at Unpacked 2016 event on August 2nd officially took the wraps of the much awaited and leaked next-generation Galaxy Note smartphone. Dubbed as Samsung Galaxy Note 6, oh sorry it's called the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, the device packs in flagship specs and comes with unique features including Iris scanning.

Samsung has made the numbering of Galaxy Note series in-line with the flagship Galaxy S series, that is the reason why 6th gen Note is called the Galaxy Note 7.

The new Galaxy Note device has many major improvements over its predecessor. We will be talking about each of them in detail in a short while.

According to Samsung, the Galaxy Note 7 will be available in-stores starting August 19th with pre-orders live in many countries. Surprisingly, the smartphone is already available for purchase in Dubai. The new Note 7 will be offered in Gold Platinum, Silver Titanium and Black Onyx colors, along with a new Blue Coral option.

As an introductory offer, Samsung is offering a free Gear Fit 2 or a 256GB microSD card on purchase of Galaxy Note 7 for limited time. Talking about the device in detail, the Galaxy Note 7 features a large-screen with unique front-to-back symmetrical dual-edge curve. The curved screen on the Note 7 adds the powerful Edge Panel which is exclusive to Galaxy Edge devices, for one-tap user access to applications, news and functions.

For durability, the Note 7 is equipped with Corning Glass Glass 5 protection (first of its kind), both on front and the back. Also, the device display comes with HDR support, enabling a cinema-like experience including brighter colors and a deeper black.

Two key features of Note 7 are the newly improved S Pen and Iris scanning for heightened security and privacy.

S Pen

According to Samsung, the S Pen has been enhanced on the Note 7 and is more than just a writing tool. It is the gateway to getting more work done efficiently and accurately and now writes with ease and precision.

The tip of the S-Pen on Note 5 was 1.6mm, which is now shrunk to smaller 0.7mm tip and improved pressure sensitivity to provide a real pen-like experience. The S-Pen of Galaxy Note 7 is IP68 water resistant, providing users jot down their thoughts without interruption, even when the screen gets wet.

Some of the S-Pen specific features include, ability to write or take a note without unlocking the screen by using Screen Off memo and simply pinning the memo to the Always On Display. Another useful feature is Smart Select, which gives users the ability to easily create and share GIF animations by selecting specific area of the screen, for maximum of 15 seconds.

In addition, we get Magnify and Translate features, that enable users to zoom in on the screen up to 300% or convert languages with a simple hover of the S Pen. Samsung Notes app is now a one stop shop for all S Pen features allowing users to convey handwritten notes, draw, or edit memos.

Along with fingerprint scanner, Samsung has also included first of its kind iris scanning technology on the Galaxy Note 7. This tech was rumored for years and is finally included in the phone. It works by flashing an IR pulse with the notification LED and watching for the reflection using a dedicated secondary camera.

Respecting privacy, Samsung has included a new feature called Secure Folder that uses iris scanning to open. It is a separate folder that adds an extra layer of authentication to keep private and personal information safe. The same tech can now be used to authenticate secure purchases made on Samsung Pay.

Samsung has revealed that both iris and fingerprint scanner will be made available to developers through Samsung Pass for bringing secured authentication to more apps and services.

Google soon to launch two Android Wear smartwatches codenamed Angelfish and Swordfish

Google announced the Android Wear platform two years back in March with first smartwatches running on that platform was LG's G Watch and Motorola's Moto 360. Following this, many OEMs have been manufacturing these watches and have achieved success regarding their sales and the experience they offer to their consumers.

But we have often wondered, just like we have Google's Nexus smartphones, why don't we have Nexus smartwatch. Google may have heard all these questions after all. After two years of success, it's about time, Google is reportedly building its own two Android Wear devices – which are probably Nexus branded, reports Android Police (referred as AP further).

AP is rating this rumor of Google building Nexus smartwatches a confidence level of 9 out of 10. According to AP, these two alleged smartwatches will be called Angelfish and Swordfish. Angelfish will be the larger one with LTE connectivity, GPS and heart rate sensor while the Swordfish will be smaller and won't sport the added connectivity and will be more pocket friendly.

The site has also released the first recreated images of the upcoming devices. AP notes that Google is currently in process of prototyping these smartwatches and it is yet unknown when they're going to be released. Also, the devices might end up looking completely different from what the below images show. It is also possible that either of them could be cancelled or delayed.

BlackBerry in a very surprising move has officially took the wraps off its second Android smartphone earlier today. Dubbed as BlackBerry DTEK50 (Yes, that's what it's called), the smartphone is a mid-range one and is actually a rebranded Alcatel Idol 4. BlackBerry DTEK50 is codenamed BlackBerry Neon, and is one of the three smartphones that BlackBerry will be releasing in the near future.

Honor, Huawei's affordable sub-brand has officially took the wraps off the Honor 8 smartphone last week at an event in China. Honor 8 is company's latest flagship smartphone and comes with dual rear camera's. Comparing Honor 8 with Huawei P9, the only difference lies in build quality, price and processor. It can be concluded that Honor 8 is a cheaper variant of Huawei P9.

Honor notes that the device comes in Pearl White, Sunrise Gold, Midnight Black, Sakura Pink and Sapphire Blue colors and will be available in three different variants in China starting July 19th at 10:08 am. There is no word on international launch at this point.

Asus Zenfone 3 Laser, Zenfone 3 Max and ZenPad 3S 10 officially announced

Asus earlier this week officially announced trio of devices, which include two mid-range smartphones and a high-end tablet. The devices which Asus launched are Asus Zenfone 3 Laser, Asus Zenfone 3 Max and Asus ZenPad 3S 10.

Talking of smartphones first, both the Zenfone 3 Max and Laser were announced in Vietnam at Zenvolution 2016 event. Asus has not revealed complete specification sheet of both the devices and even availability details are yet to be disclosed.

According to Asus, Max will be available in Titanium Gray, Glacier Silver and Sand Gold colors, whereas the Laser will be available in Gold, Rose Gold and Silver colors. When it comes to pricing, the Zenfone 3 Max costs 4,490,000 Vietnamese Dong (~ US $199 / Rs. 13,382) and the Zenfone 3 Laser costs 5,990,000 Vietnamese Dong (~ US $266 / Rs. 17,852).

Coming to tablet now, Asus ZenPad 3S 10 was announced at an event in Taiwan. The ZenPad 3S 10 comes in Grey and Silver color options and is priced at Taiwan $11,000  (~ US $344 / Rs. 23,075). Asus has revealed that the ZenPad 3S 10 will be available in Taiwan starting August 1st.

Motorola has officially announced the third-generation Moto E smartphone. Called Moto E3, the device display has been bumped from 4.5-inch found on Moto E 2nd Gen to 5-inch. Samsung has revealed that it will give total of 12,500 Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games Edition phones along with Gear Icon X earbuds to all of the athletes in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

OnePlus begins rolling out OxygenOS 3.2.1 update for OnePlus 3

OnePlus rolled out OxygenOS 3.2.0 update for OnePlus 3 with two major improvements - sRGB mode and RAM management fix, earlier this week. Soon after update was rolled out globally, OnePlus paused the roll-out due to some undisclosed issues. Now, OnePlus is back with another update for OnePlus 3.

OnePlus says that rather than continuing that rollout, they are skipping right ahead to 3.2.1. OxygenOS 3.2.1 update is rolling out slowly to all OnePlus 3 owners.

EUI 5.8.015S update for LeEco Le 2 widely rolling out in India

LeEco launched the Le 2 smartphone in India last month. Le 2 has proved to be one of the best smartphones available in market. With top-notch specifications and competitive pricing, LeEco aims at capturing big market share with the launch of Le 2 in India.

To continue following this approach, LeEco has started rolling out major update for Le 2 smartphone which brings massive improvements and features. With this new update, EUI version on Le 2 jumps from 5.6.013S to 5.8.015S, though the Android version remains same at Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

The update weighs at 471.19 MB in size and brings many changes.

Late last month Xiaomi officially took the wraps of the Xiaomi Mi Max in India at an controversial event in Delhi. Xiaomi Mi Max was originally announced in China in May and comes with a colossal 6.44-inch display. The Mi Max launched in India comes in Silver, Light Grey and Gold colors and will be available in two variants priced unalike. 

According to Xiaomi, the 3GB RAM with 32GB storage Mi Max powered by Snapdragon 650 SoC will cost Rs. 14,999, whereas the 4GB RAM with 128GB storage variant powered by Snapdragon 652 SoC will be available for Rs. 19,999.

The device went on sale in India on July 6th through mi.com, but since then it's out-of-stock. Xiaomi says that the Mi Max will be available from Amazon India, Flipkart, Snapdeal, PayTM and Tata CLiQ starting July 13th.

Panasonic launches Eluga Note in India for Rs. 13290

Panasonic, earlier this week, has officially announced the launch of its next smartphone in Eluga series. Dubbed as Panasonic Eluga Note, the smartphone features a 5.5-inch display. According to Panasonic, the Eluga Note will be available in just Champagne Gold color option. The smartphone is priced at Rs. 13,290.

Panasonic notes that the device will be available for purchase in the country via offline stores only. Honestly, the pricing of Eluga Note is way to high, considering the hardware it offers.

7-inch huge Samsung Galaxy J Max launched in India for Rs. 13,400

Along with Samsung Galaxy J2 (2016), the South Korean smartphone manufacturer has also launched a new phablet in the country. Dubbed as Samsung Galaxy J Max, the device sports a massive 7-inch display, to compete with the Xiaomi Mi Max, that launched in India a week back. The Galaxy J Max is mid-range device and will be available in Black and Gold color options. 

Samsung Galaxy J Max is priced at Rs. 13,400 and is scheduled to be available in the country starting July-end through both online and brick & mortar stores. Similar to Galaxy J2 (2016), the device also comes with 6 months double data offer for Airtel prepaid.

In a surprising move, Samsung has officially launched the Samsung Galaxy J2 (2016) in India. The Galaxy J2 (2016) was first leaked couple of months back with its render popping up a day ago. The device is first of it's kind to come with a new Samsung-exclusive feature called Smart Glow and Turbo Speed Technology (TST).

Samsung Galaxy J2 (2016) will be made available in India in Gold, Silver and Black colors starting July 14. Samsung has priced the J2 (2016) at Rs. 9,750 and as an introductory offer the device comes with 6 months double data offer for Airtel prepaid.

Specifications of Blackberry Neon, Argon and Mercury running on Android leaked

When Blackberry came into the market, it showed the success rate that can be compared to Apple to an extent, as it actually became a hefty status symbol in its own way. We can all agree that the Blackberry Curve series was the most successful line-up. But Blackberry lost its shine pretty quickly after the sudden jump of Android smartphones all over the world.

However, Blackberry is still considered by people working in the business sector even today. But then again, it's not really like it used to be a couple of years ago. So, Blackberry released their own Android smartphone named "Blackberry Priv" - an attempt by the company to get back in the game. But the consumers found it to be way too expensive for its own good.

Now, it seems that Blackberry is going to try again by releasing three (3) new Android smartphones codenamed Neon (Blackberry Hamburg), Argon and Mercury.

Argon is going to be the high-end model of the three, sporting a full touch screen along with a fingerprint sensor. Neon is also going to have a full touch screen but made of a aluminium frame and a smooth plastic back. Now, Mercury is going to be cheaper than Argon but will be priced higher than Neon, sporting a 4.5-inch 1080p screen and a physical QWERTY keyboard (Remember Blackberry Passport?).

Here's our first look at the upcoming Google's Sailfish and Marlin devices

It's no secret that this year's Nexus phones, codenamed Marlin and Saiflish, will be made by HTC. We are already aware of the specifications of both these devices and now, thanks to Android Police sources (referred as AP further), here's our first look at what the upcoming Nexuses will look like. Do note that the image below is not an actual press render, but a recreation based on evidence from a reliable source. Thus, couple of things may not be fully accurate.

While, both the HTC-made Sailfish and Marlin are expected to come with a 5-inch and 5.5-inch display respectively, they will sport similar design language. The exact dimensions and measurements of the phones are yet to be disclosed.

Though AP is rating this leak a confidence level of 8 out of 10, "the final design of the Nexus phones may differ slightly or perhaps even substantially from what you see here in certain respects", notes Android Police.

Things to note after you see the image are, the new Nexus devices will have curved corners and no more you will find camera hump, like on Nexus 6P or Nexus 5X. Also, the back of the phone will now feature two-tone look, with the upper one made of glass or glossy plastic featuring fingerprint scanner in typical Nexus position along with camera on the top left corner with three holes next to it. We will talk about those holes later in the post.

OnePlus is a company whose charts skyrocketed right after the release of its first flagship smartphone itself. Dare I say that this was one of the fastest market capturing in today's cut-throat competitive market. But then with second iteration of their product, the company was kind of in 'Rock meet Bottom' situation as they got a little over confident regarding some small features that are ought to be included in the so called "Flagship Killer of the year."

Then with the release of their latest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 3, they have given the consumers a reason to believe that the people at OnePlus have actually learnt a lesson from their past mistakes. But as everyone say "Nothing is Perfect". The OnePlus 3 had its own issues after the release in the software segment, like inaccurate display and RAM management.

OnePlus stepped up and released an OTA update addressing issues that early reviewers pointed out. This release was previously rolled out to reviewers a couple of weeks ago versioned 3.1.4 and now the new firmware version 3.2.0 was rolled out to commercial units. But before it reached every device, OnePlus pulled the rollout. OnePlus says there have been reports of issues with the OTA, so they are temporarily halting the rollout. The update will be resumed as soon as possible.

The update weighs in at 396MB and brings following changes:

• Enabled sRGB mode in developer options.
• Improved RAM management.
• Improved GPS performance.
• Enhanced audio playback quality.
• Updated custom icon packs.
• Fixed some issues with notifications.
• Improved camera quality/functionality.
