Xperia Z Sony Logo Baked into Screen Protector rather than its Display
No comments
Sony Mobile is one of the few mobile manufacturers to pre-apply a screen protector to its smartphones. It’s a nice gesture, providing a factory-fitted finish. The company has been doing this since the Xperia X10 was released back in 2010 and the same will apply to the Xperia Z when it is released next month. However, judging by the photos below it looks like the protective sheet will also double-up to display the ‘Sony’ logo.

Following up a series of leaked images, it looks as if the Galaxy Note 8.0 has made the required stop with the FCC. The filing shows a tablet sporting the model number of GT-5110, a number we previously saw associated with the 8-inch Note. The GT-5110 number also matches up with details that we have previously been told. For example, the GT-5110 was expected to arrive as the Wi-Fi only model and this FCC filing does indeed show a lack of cellular connectivity.

HTC Desire U Announced in Taiwan
No commentsHTC has announced the Desire U Android smartphone in Taiwan, and while the specs aren't the best out there, the price is certainly right at $275 USD [ Rs. 14K - 16K ]. With a 4-inch display, Beats Audio, and Micro-Drilled Rear cover art, the device certainly seems promising. Check out its specs and images after the jump to decide for yourself.
Inside, users will find a decent 1GHz Processor, although its product page doesn't specify more than that. There’s a low 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage space, as well as a microSD expansion slot in case the internal storage isn't enough for your needs. Likewise, there is a microUSB 2.0 connectivity port.
Connectivity includes Bluetooth 4.0 (aptX enabled), as well as your standard 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi. There’s a 5-megapixel camera around back with an LED flash and autofocus. Maximum image resolution is the same as the display – WVGA (800 x 480). The battery is only 1,650mAh, meaning users will probably be charging it more often than they like.
The Desire U runs Android with HTC Sense, although the version wasn't specified. There’s GSM/GPRS/EDGE 900/1800/1900 MHz and HSPA/WCDMA 900/2100 MHz. While none of the specs are mind-blowing, this appears to be a solid mid-range handset for those wanting a combination of powerful enough hardware and a budget-friendly price.

Temple Run 2 by Imangi Studios in Play Store Live

Bringing a much-needed update to the wildly popular Temple Run, Imangi Studios introduced Temple Run 2 to the Play Store earlier this evening. The game, which brings updated graphics, new obstacles, and player-specific powers, is essentially a refresh of the original.
Temple Run 2, like its predecessor, provides players with a vague pretext surrounding a sacred idol. All you really need to know is that you're running from a big, scary, demon monkey, avoiding obstacles, and collecting as many coins as possible along the way. While the overall gameplay dynamic remains the same, players will enjoy sizable enhancements - for one thing, alternate characters are no longer just custom meshes - each character has its own special power. There are also more achievements to unlock, new great-looking environments, and improved graphics.

Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos vs Micromax A116 Canvas HD
No commentsIn the last two days, we have seen two Android Phablet launches in the country. First one was Micromax’s A116 Canvas HD, a successor to A110 Canvas 2, while the other was Samsung’s Galaxy Grand Duos, first mid-range Android Phablet from the Korean Manufacturer.
Although Micromax has not revealed the exact official pricing of A116 Canvas HD (apart from the fact it is going to be Under Rs. 15K ), the street price difference is going to be over Rs. 5K between the Two Smartphones.
We thought it was a nice opportunity to compare both the smartphones and see where they stand. There are obvious branding advantages with Samsung, but then Micromax is giving a better feature set. Here is a look at specs comparison.
Phone > Specs v | Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos | Micromax A116 Canvas HD |
---|---|---|
Price/Availability | Rs. 21,500 ( Starting early-February ) | Under Rs.15,000 ( Starting early-February ) |
Display | 5-inch 800x480p LCD | 5-inch 1280x720p IPS display |
Processor | Dual-core 1.2GHz | Quad-core 1.2 GHz |
RAM | 1GB | 1GB |
Android Version | Android 4.1 Jelly Bean | Android 4.1 Jelly Bean |
Internal storage | 8GB | 4GB |
External storage | Yes (Up to 64GB) | Yes (Up to 32GB) |
Connectvity/Ports | Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, MicroUSB, dual-SIM | Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, MicroUSB, dual-SIM |
Cameras | 8MP rear/ 2MP front | 8MP rear/ VGA front |
Battery | 2100 mAh | 2100 mAh |
As you can see, Micromax is clearly a winner in the specs department and it is providing all these specifications at a much lower price. Even if you value Samsung brand very much, there are obvious issues with Galaxy Grand Duos, like a sub-par display resolution (if not HD, even qHD would have been better than WVGA). However, on the software customization front, Samsung is a winner. Company has included a lot nice software tweaks from Galaxy SIII and Note II in its Galaxy Grand Duos, like Multi-Window, Direct Call and Smart Stay. Even the new content offerings bouquet “My Services” is also a positive, but you can always get alternatives from Google Play.
So, you will have to decide, what the most important variables are for you at the time of your next Phablet Purchase.
