Samsung is the No. 1 manufacturer of smartphones globally and it constantly keeps on innovating to stay on top of the rest. Even though the fingerprint scanner came a bit late in the Samsung Galaxy S5 (HTC and Apple debuted it a long way ahead of Samsung), it still plans on making it a first for many other segments. The scanner is expected to feature on the Galaxy Tab S range of tablets due for a launch on June 12th, 2014 in NYC.
But that isn’t all. Samsung is also planning to bring the iris detection functionality and other biometric security to the smartphones that are not as costly as flagships are.
“We’re looking at various types of biometric [mechanisms] and one of things that everybody is looking at is iris detection,” Samsung’s senior vice president Rhee In-jong has told the analysts and investors at a forum in Hong Kong.
Rhee also heads the Samsung KNOX security suite for enterprises and believes that iris scanners are about to come soon as well to the handsets in future.
Samsung, by launching the flagship feature in mid-range segments would not only differentiate itself from the others but will also offer a high level of security to the ones who can’t spend as much as a flagship device.
