Seagate at CES 2015 has announced a slew of new WiFi capable hard drives that will let users to take their data anywhere. The Seagate Wireless hard drive is designed to stream and offload media content from mobile devices. And the Seagate Personal Cloud drives provide high storage capacity for users to store all their media content and access them from any device.
The firm also announced a new portable hard drive that is claimed to be the world’s slimmest one.
The Seagate Personal Cloud connects to the wireless router using Ethernet and once the Seagate Media application is installed on a specific device, users can access the content stored on the same via Personal Cloud from any location. This Personal Cloud comes in several storage variants such as 3TB, 4TB and 5TB and as a two bay configuration with 4TB, 6TB and 8TB options respectively.
On the other hand, the Seagate Wireless is a portable drive that lets users to offload media from their mobile device. There is 500GB of storage capacity and it will connect to the device using the installed Seagate Media application. The Seagate Wireless will retail on Amazon, Best Buy and Seagate website in five color options which include lime green, cool blue, slate grey, fire-engine red and white.
Interestingly, the Wireless supports multiple connected devices simultaneously (max 3) and will be available starting February for $130. Furthermore, there is an inbuilt power support and a WiFi radio as well to access the stored files on the go.
The wireless hard drive allows users to stream HD video content using Seagate Media app for Apple iOS, Android, Kindle Fire HD and Windows 8 tablets. The content can also be streamed to big screen devices using Apple Airplay, Chromecast and Roku.
