XXLQ2 is yet another Ice Cream Sandwich Firmware for Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 which has been released by Samsung for United Kingdom & Ireland users of Galaxy Note. Since this update is for the N7000 variant, you can apply this firmware on your Note also provided it is not locked to any network (region does not matter). In this tutorial we will tell you how to install XXLQ2 Ice Cream Sandwich Firmware on your Samsung Galaxy Note. The procedure is quite simple and this can be done via Odin.
Since this is an official firmware, you do not need to wipe data if you are on a stock ROM but if you are using a custom ROM, you will need to wipe data to prevent force close issues. Also, stock ROM's are not rooted and hence if your phone is already rooted, application of this firmware will revoke root access and you will have to root your Galaxy Note again.
Before you flash any firmware, it is always a good idea to take a backup of all your important data on your device.

Pre-Requisites

The few points listed below will help you backup your data on Samsung Galaxy Note N7000.
  1. Back up all apps using ASTRO File Manager. You can get the APK files using ASTRO and later restore it. Rooted users can use Titanium Backup which also backs up data along with the apps.
  2. Back up all contacts to SD card.
  3. Backup SMS on Android.
  4. Backup call log on Android.
  5. Have minimum 60% charge on your phone else you might get stuck while the update process is running on your device.
  6. Make sure you have Samsung KIES installed which will provide the drivers for your phone.
