Samsung believes in making the most out of its flagship name. It usually launches a slew of devices with its flagship. It launched S4 Mini, S4 Zoom and S4 Active after launching the Galaxy S4. Now after launching the Galaxy S5, it is planning on launching a slew of devices based on it. Samsung intends on launching a Galaxy S5 Active later this year which is surprising since S5 is already IP67 certified.
What separates the Active variant from the regular one is water and dust resistance alongside slightly lower specs. But the Galaxy S5 is already waterproof and we thought that the Active variant won’t be bowing in henceforth. But as per @evleaks, Samsung SM-G870x will be the Galaxy S5 Active, and will head to AT&T, Sprint and other US carriers. An Indian launch should take place after that as well as per us.
Evleaks is pretty credible source so the information is correct in all likelihood. But we wonder as to why we are getting a S5 Active variant when the S5 is already water and dust resistant. So the S5 Active will be a slightly lower specced device with a lower set of specifications, the same way Samsung did with the Galaxy S4. It will probably get a LCD display instead and a 13MP instead of a 16MP as per the latest reports.
Samsung has a pretty wide portfolio and it has a thing for launching devices that are closely related yet different. Let us see how things pan out in future and if the device goes on to become a reality.
