Oppo R5 with just 4.85mm thickness, world’s thinnest smartphone officially announced
Alongside its flagship smartphone N3, Oppo also unveiled R5 that is the world’s slimmest smartphone measuring only 4.85 mm in thickness. This smartphone surpasses the Oppo R3 that was the firm’s thinnest device measuring 6.3 mm and Gionee Elife S5.1 that carries a thickness of 5.1 mm. The Oppo R5 features a 3D welded aluminum alloy build and a hand-polished frame measuring only 4 mm in thickness.
When it comes to specifications, the Oppo R5 comes with a 5.2-inch Full HD AMOLED display that boasts screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels that translates to a pixel density of 423 pixels per inch. The firm assures that the R5’s display is the best in terms of brightness, accurate colors and lower reflectivity.
Running on Color OS 2.0 based on Android 4.4 KitKat, the Oppo R5 employs a 1.5GHz 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor that is added by Adreno 405 graphics unit and 2GB of RAM. Oppo has made use of a special cooling element made of liquid metal and phase change materials to eradicate the heat generated by the chipset.
The primary camera onboard the Oppo R5 is a 13MP Sony IMX214 sensor that comes with f/2.0 aperture and the ability to capture FHD 1080p videos. There is a 5MP front facer onboard in order to take charge of video conferencing and clicking self portrait shots.
There is a 2,000 mAh battery under the hood of the R5 and feature 16GB internal storage along with the VOOC mini rapid charging technology. The other aspects of the smartphone include 4G LTE / 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. Due to such a thin profile, Oppo R5 misses the 3.5mm audio jack. But Oppo is providing a microUSB to audio jack adapter with the phone.
Oppo has announced that the Oppo R5 will be priced at $499, but there is no exact launch date for the device yet. According to PTI, both the Oppo N3 and R5 will be launched in India by the end of December 2014.
