Last year, Asus ramped up its sales with its Zenfone lineup that made huge sales attracting consumers with reasonable pricing. This year, the vendor has unveiled the Zenfone 2 at the CES 2015 tech show and it carries the highlight of being the first smartphone to pack 4GB of RAM under its hood to render exceptional multitasking and performance. It comes with a slew of improvements as compared to its predecessor making it impressive.
The Zenfone 2 flaunts a 5.5-inch display carrying a Full HD screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels that will result in a pixel density of 401 pixels per inch. Furthermore, the screen is coated with the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection to keep it away from scratches and damage.
Also, the side bezels are pretty narrow and they are tapered outwards making the outer edge quite thin measuring only 3.9 mm. The design of the Zenfone 2 appears to be inspired by LG flagship models as there is rear key below the primary camera on the back. But, the rear key houses only the volume rocker on the Asus offering.
When it comes to innards, 4GB of RAM complements the 2.3GHz 64-bit quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 processor that is claimed to be around three times faster than some of its noteworthy quad-core rivals. As the smartphone is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop (topped with Zen UI), it will make use of the 64-bit computing support of the chipset.
Also, the graphics chipset used in the Zenfone 2 is likely to be around eight folds faster than its rivals. Eventually, there is no doubt that the Asus smartphone will be a power house offering.
The camera department seems to have got a significant enhancement with a 13MP primary camera with f/2.0 aperture, True Tone Flash, HDR mode and manual mode. Also, there is a 5MP front facing selfie snapper onboard with 85 degree field of view and support to click 140 degree panoramic selfies. There is a 3,000 mAh battery in the Zenfone 2 which is accompanied with fast charging that can charge the handset up to 60 percent in just 29 minutes.
Notably, Asus has also announced 16GB & 32GB variant of the Zenfone 2, which will have only 2GB of RAM and 1.8GHz 64-bit quad-core Intel Atom Z3560 processor, and it will be priced starting at $199. There is no word on pricing of 64GB variant of the Asus Zenfone 2. According to Asus, the phone will be available starting March 2015 in five color options which include Osmium Black, Sheer Gold, Glacier Gray, Glamor Red and Ceramic White.
