Gionee to introduce the Elife S7 at MWC 2015 on March 2, reported to be ultra-slim
The Mobile World Congress 2015 is all set to debut early next month and Gionee has announced that it will launch a new ultra slim smartphone during the event. It is claimed that the upcoming Gionee Elife S7 will be joining the already existing slim smartphones such as Gionee Elife S5.5 and Elife S5.1. Notably, the latter was quickly overshadowed by Oppo R5 that was launched in October.
Though Gionee has not revealed the exact thickness of the Elife S7, the company has stated that it wants to provide an enhanced user experience despite being slim. With plenty of smartphone manufacturers targeting the thinnest smartphone category, Gionee wants to launch devices without any compromise on other aspects for the thin profile.
The company claimed that vendors who have entered this segment have dropped out attributes such as expandable microSD card slot, audio jack and other aspects to keep the thickness of their products slim.
As per the official statement made by Gionee, the upcoming smartphone will not be missing any of the essential features to ensure thinness. But, unless Gionee has made any drastic changes to its naming policy, chances are that the upcoming Elife S7 will have a thickness of 7mm and won't be an ultra-slim smartphone after all.
According to Anzhuo (Chinese website), the Elife S7 won't follow Gionee's statement as the upcoming smartphone is said to be ridiculously thin at just 4.6mm, which would make it the world's thinnest smartphone. The leaked images (above) shows a thin handset, so it's unclear whether Gionee will sacrifice the premium hardware for thin profile or bring premium hardware in such a thin profile.
Whatever Gionee choose to launch, the MWC event is scheduled for March 2. So, stay tuned!
