Sony Xperia X, XA and X Performance unveiled at MWC 2016

Sony has officially took the wraps of the first Xperia “X” series smartphones at the Mobile World Congress 2016. The new line-up of X series include mid-range Sony Xperia X and Xperia XA along with an high-end Sony Xperia X Performance. According to Sony, the X line-up will be made available in variety of colours and will roll out starting Summer 2016, i.e. four more months.

Out of three, the Xperia X Performance and Xperia X shares most of the specification. “Each X series smartphone brings a curved glass display within a rounded, continuous frame for a familiar form that feels comfortable in your hand,” says Sony. 

​Sony has also revealed that the Xperia X, XA and X Performance will come with wide range of style covers and will roll out in four elegant finishes - White, Graphite Black, Lime Gold and Rose Gold, from Summer 2016. There is no word on pricing yet.

Sony Xperia XA is a mid-range offering from Sony featuring 5-inch HD edge-to-edge display, powered by Octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor with Mali-T860MP2 graphics and 2 gigs of RAM. Running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the Xperia XA measures 143.6 x 66.8 x 7.9 mm and weighs 137.4 grams. 

Talking about the camera, on the back, we have 13MP Exmor RS 1/3-inch sensor and on the front is a 8MP Exmor R sensor with 88-degree wide angle lens. Other specifications include, 16GB internal storage with microSD support, 2300mAh battery, single / dual-SIM support, Cat 4 LTE, WiFi 820.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS and NFC support.

According to Sony, all the Xperia X series phones comes with Qnovo "adaptive charging" technology, which promises to deliver up to double the cycle longevity of your battery. The Xperia XA is not IP68 certified nor comes with fingerprint scanner.

Sony Xperia X

​The Sony Xperia X, on the other hand, comes with a 5-inch Full HD Triluminos display with 441 ppi density. Under the hood is 64-bit Hexa-core Snapdragon 650 SoC with Adreno 510 GPU and 3GB RAM. Like Xperia XA, the Xperia X also runs on latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The device measures 142.7 x 69.4 x 7.9 mm and weighs 153 grams.

Other specifications of Xperia X include 23MP 1/2.3-inch Exmor RS rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, 13MP 1/3.06-inch Exmor RS front camera with 22mm wide-angle f/2.0 lens, 32GB / 64GB internal storage with microSD support and 2620mAh battery. Connectivity series include single / dual-SIM options, Cat. 6 LTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4GHz / 5GHz) MIMO, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/ GLONASS and NFC.

The Xperia X comes with fingerprint support embedded in power button and metal-rear with metal-effect polycarbonate frame. According to Sony, the Xperia X and X Performance comes with all-new Predictive Hybrid Autofocus which lets you choose your subject and then predicts its motion, so you can capture the action in perfect focus, free from blur.

Sony Xperia X Performance

​Talking about the Sony Xperia X Performance now, the smartphone is equipped with similar 5-inch Full HD display but is powered by Quad-core 64-bit Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 processor with Adreno 530 GPU.

The smartphone measures 143.7 x 70.4 x 8.7mm, weighs 165 grams and has 2700mAh battery with Sony's Qnovo charging technology. The Xperia X Performance similar to Xperia X features fingerprint scanner but X Performance is also water resistant with IP68 certification.
