Xiaomi at MWC 2016 has officially announced the launch of the successor to Xiaomi Mi 4. Dubbed as Xiaomi Mi 5, the smartphone is a complete package with premium build, high-end specifications and affordability. According to Xiaomi, it took them nearly two years to build the Mi 5. Xiaomi has launched the Mi 5 in three storage options, the one with 128GB ROM is called Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro and features ceramic back.

Talking of the pricing, Xiaomi has priced the Mi 5 very aggressively, considering what they are offering at that price. The 32GB variant of Mi 5 with Snapdragon 820 SoC clocked at 1.8GHz and 3GB RAM is priced at just CNY 1999 (~ US$306 / Rs. 21,000). On the other hand, the 64GB unit with 2.15GHz Snapdragon 820 processor & same 3 gigs of RAM is priced at CNY 2299 (~ US$351 / Rs. 24,100). Lastly, the Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro with 2.15GHz Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB RAM and 128GB storage is priced at CNY 2699 (~ US$413 / Rs. 28,300).

Xiaomi Mi 5 Specifications
Xiaomi Mi 5 is equipped with a 5.15-inch Full HD display with 16 LED backlight technology which gives 600 nits brightness. The device has screen-to-body ration of ~73.1% and comes with 3D glass body with curved design on the back similar to the Mi Note. On the front, Xiaomi has included a physical home button below the display which doubles as a fingerprint reader.
Under the hood we have 64-bit quad-core Snapdragon 820 processor with Adreno 530 GPU and 3GB / 4GB RAM, depending on the varaint.The Mi 5 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with MIUI 7 on top. The device measures 144.55 x 69.2 x 7.25mm, and the regular variant weights 129g and the ceramic variant weights 139g.
Talking of the pixels, the Mi 5 comes with a 16MP Sony IMX298 sensor with dual-tone LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, PDAF autofocus, DTI pixel-to-pixel isolation and 4-axis OIS, a first for a smartphone. On the front we have a 4MP sensor with 2um pixel size, f/2.0 aperture and 80-degree wide-angle lens.
In terms of storage, the smartphone comes in 32GB / 64GB / 128GB options with UFS 2.0. Powering the device is a 3000mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0, that promises power up to 2.5 hours with just 5-10 minutes of charge.
On the connectivity front, the Xiaomi Mi 5 comes with an infrared sensor, Cat. 12 LTE with VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band (MIMO), Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.2 A2DP LE, GPS / GLONASS, NFC and USB Type-C 1.0 reversible connector.
