OnePlus 5 with 5.5-inch display, 8GB RAM, 16MP + 20MP dual cameras officially announced

As promised, OnePlus, today, has officially announced the launch of its fourth flagship killer smartphone. Though the device is company's fourth flagship smartphone, OnePlus has named it the OnePlus 5. Pretty much everything was already leaked prior official announcement, so there's nothing new to add in this post.

All the specifications leaked earlier remains the same and so do the most talked design. According to OnePlus, the OnePlus 5 will be launched in two different color options at launchMidnight Black and Slate Gray; which is none other than the highly popular Sandstone Black.

OnePlus has also revealed that the OnePlus 5 will be launched in two different variants — one with 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, and the another with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The prior will be launched in Slate Gray color, whereas the latter will be made available in Midnight Black color option.
OnePlus is best known for launching quality devices at half the flagship price, but with the introduction of the OnePlus 5, we can't see a major price difference, but we can surely see improvements as the iteration grows, like the camera. OnePlus has launched the 6GB + 64GB variant of the OnePlus 5 at US$479 / €499, and the 8GB + 128GB variant costs US$539 / €569.

Let's start with the design, which definitely people are already talking about. Yes, the OnePlus 5 looks exactly like the Apple's iPhone 7 Plus, but with a headphone jack. To differentiate between the two, other than the headphone jack, one can have a look at the logo on the back panel or can see the capacitive home button on the front of the OnePlus 5, which isn't circular like you see on the 7 Plus.

The device has an Anodized Aluminum unibody metal design with more circular corners than the iPhone 7 Plus, which will definitely help users in holding and using the device more easily and comfortably, considering it has a 5.5-inch panel. It also comes with OnePlus' proprietary alert slider on the left. The fingerprint scanner on the front of the OnePus 5 is now much faster and can unlock the device in just 0.2 seconds.

Talking of the software, with the introduction of the OnePlus 5 there are a couple of advancements in the OxygenOS. OnePlus has included new features in OxygenOS like Reading Mode - which filters out blue light using gray-scale mapping with the help of ambient sensor to give e-reader like experience, App Priority - which opens your most used apps much faster than the other apps and Extended Screenshots.

The smartphone also comes with latest UFS 2.1 Dual Lane storage, coupled with 2-lane ROM, which provides 50% faster bandwidth, and also doubles the reading and writing speed compared to the UFS 2.0.

Last but not the least, OnePlus 5 comes with dual cameras on the rear. The primary rear camera is a 16MP Sony sensor with f/1.7 aperture and wide-angle lens and the secondary rear camera has a 20MP Sony sensor with f/2.6 aperture and is a telephoto lens used for capturing images with high depth of field to produce bokeh effect. Camera features include Portrait Mode, Pro mode, and up to 2x optical zoom. 2x lossless zoom with 1.6x optical zoom and the remaining 0.4x is realized through SmartCapture multiframe technology.
