Original (14 June 2017 - 9:23 AM IST) - In the past couple of years, I have seen many new companies entering into the smartphone business. OnePlus is among those many companies. Some succeeded in getting public attention, whereas some are still struggling. But, the level of growth OnePlus has achieved since the launch of the OnePlus One is unbelievable.

Three years down the road, OnePlus is all geared up to launch its next flagship killer smartphone called the OnePlus 5. If you are wondering where did the OnePlus 4 go, it's the Chinese superstitions to blame. It is said that, in China, 4 is the unluckiest number and it refers to death or disease. Thus, OnePlus is playing safe and has named it's next flagship smartphone the OnePlus 5. Besides that, the OnePlus 5 will actually be company's 5th flagship smartphone after the OnePlus One, Two, 3 and 3T.

OnePlus has officially confirmed the name and has revealed that the company would be globally launching the OnePlus 5 on June 20th. OnePlus India has confirmed that the same will land in India on June 22nd. The event scheduled in India is set to take place at NSCI Dome, Worli, Mumbai.

OnePlus India has also revealed that it has again partnered with Amazon India for selling the OnePlus 5 exclusively in India. The smartphone will go on sale in the country on the same day of India launch at 4:30 PM on Amazon India. While exploring Amazon India's OnePlus 5 launch page, it was confirmed that the upcoming smartphone will house a whopping 8GB of RAM under it.

Besides revealing the launch date, OnePlus has also confirmed a couple of specifications and features of the OnePlus 5. According to OnePlus, the upcoming 5 will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. The company has also revealed that the OnePlus 5 will be its thinnest flagship, making us believe that the smartphone will compromise on the battery for sleekness.

Android Police has got hold of the press render of the OnePlus 5, which they had leaked online and are very confident about that press render to be authentic. OnePlus, on the other hand, has also officially teased the back of the OnePlus 5. The press render (below) and the teaser image from OnePlus (above) confirms that the upcoming OnePlus 5 will come with a dual-rear camera and will look a lot like the Apple's iPhone 7 Plus.

To build the hype a little more, Pete Lau, OnePlus CEO posted a photo shot from his OnePlus 5 on Weibo lately. The metadata of that image did point at a 16MP rear camera with f/1.8 aperture. Honestly speaking, the image (below) was shot in low-light and is extremely clear and detailed with no noise at all. The camera on the OnePlus 5 seems to have improved a lot.

As far as other specifications are concerned, GFXBench listing reveals that the upcoming OnePlus 5 will come with a 5.5-inch Full HD display, SD835 processor paired with Adreno 540 GPU, 8GB RAM, Android 7.1.1 Nougat, 16MP rear and front facing cameras and 128GB internal storage. The rear camera will be capable of shooting videos in 4K, whereas the front will be limited to 1080p.

Additional specs include 3,300 mAh battery with Dash Charge, 6GB / 8GB RAM and 64GB / 128GB internal storage of dual-band UFS 2.1

According to TechnoBlog, the dual-camera of OnePlus 5 will have 20MP + 16MP sensors with f/2.6 and f/1.7 aperture respectively. When it comes to connectivity, the OnePlus 5 will come with Bluetooth 5.0, making the OnePlus 5 second smartphone to include B5.0 after the Galaxy S8.

Last but not the least, talking about pricing, the OnePlus 5 is said to launch in India in two different variants, one with 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage and the another with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The 6GB RAM variant is said to be priced at Rs. 32,999 (~ US$513), whereas the 8GB RAM variant might cost Rs. 37,999 (~ US$590).
