Samsung announced the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ smartphones earlier this year in late-March. The Galaxy S8 series brought a whole new design language for the Samsung smartphones. In 2013, soon after the global rollout of the Galaxy S4 smartphone, Samsung introduced the Galaxy S4 Active with IP67 certification.

The series continued since then by the introduction of the Galaxy S5 Active, the Galaxy S6 Active and the Galaxy S7 Active, all with IP67 and IP68 certification respectively along with MIL-STD-810G certification which gives salt, dust, humidity, rain, vibration, solar radiation, transport and thermal shock resistance, which helps differentiating them with the originals.

Though both the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ comes with IP68 certification, Samsung is said to follow the legacy of Active series and will be launching the Galaxy S8 Active soon with IP68 and MIL-STD-810G certification. The device has already been surfaced in many areas including company's official website, GFXBench, and Geekbench revealing specs and other details.

Today, surprisingly, a stranger on Android Central forum with username Nique0201 revealed key details of the upcoming Galaxy S8 Active, including live images from all the angles and a detailed hands-on video (which we have reuploaded on our YouTube channel, as the leaker has already deleted all the images and videos published a few hours ago).

According to Nique0201, the Galaxy S8 Active will be 1.5x times thicker than the normal Galaxy S8. The reason behind this is the inclusion of a 4000mAh battery inside the S8 Active, which is 1000mAh more than the S8 and 500mAh more than the S8+. Another big difference between the two is the flat display unlike what we see on the Galaxy S8 and S8+. The flat 18.5:9 aspect ratio display on the S8 Active has huge bezels on the sides, as opposed to bezel-less Galaxy S8 and the S8+.

Talking about the physical appearance, the Galaxy S8 Active will feature metal chassis with the back being made of some kind of polymer (similar to its predecessor) and not glass like its original brother. Cut outs remain the same, so do the fingerprint scanner position and dedicated Bixby button on the left. It looks like the Bixby button will have some kind of texture to it.

Nique0201 also reveals that the software on the S8 Active and rest everything remains same like the Galaxy S8. It also comes with pressure sensitive button beneath the lower part of the display. One interesting change is in the SIM card tray, which in the S8 Active has microSD card slot on the one side and the SIM card slot on the other, this will give users the facility to have dedicated SIM card slot.

The device is bulky. The screen is highly durable because of the flat display and bumped up corners. The screen does not have a plastic layer on top, like what you see on the Galaxy S8 and the S8+, this will help get rid of reflections. Nique0201 notes that the Galaxy S8 Active won't have any dedicated underwater camera mode as seen in its previous generations.

Other rumored specifications include Snapdragon 835 processor, Adreno 540 GPU, 4GB RAM, Android 7.0 Nougat, 64GB internal storage, 12MP rear camera and an 8MP front-facing camera.

Samsung has already revealed that it will be launching the Samsung Galaxy Note8 smartphone on 23rd August so we can expect the tech giant to officially unveil the Galaxy S8 Active in coming 1 or 2 weeks.
