Once we download & install Google Hangouts, Google Talk Application will be replaced. Hangouts will be replacing all of Google’s existing communication platforms like Google Talk, Gmail Chat, Google+ Messenger and more into one product.

"Today's real-time communication products make conversations difficult. Some require everyone to use the same operating system. Others support video calls, but not photo-sharing. And still others enable mobile messaging but ignore the web entirely. Patchy solutions (including our own) preclude meaningful connections online, and we aim to fix this," Google's Vic Gundotra noted in a blog post.
“We’re launching a stand-alone version of Hangouts that combines text, photos and live video across Android, iOS and your computer. The app is fast, free, and includes a number of key benefits,” Google noted in a blog post.

Hangouts is available in all the operating systems as a standalone app, you can download the original Hangouts App from Google Play, you can also find Hangouts on App Store for iOS devices lastly you can download Hangouts for Chrome. It is also get integrated in Gmail and Google+.
