Motorola officially announces Moto G, packs 4.5-inch HD display, quad-core processor, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, India launch scheduled for January

The wait is over, Motorola has officially took the wraps off the Moto G today at an event held in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Moto G is Motorola's newest mid-range smartphone designed to bring the acclaimed Moto X user experience to a lower price point. Motorola has announced that the Moto G will be available in more than 30 countries with 60 partners by 2014.

The front of Moto G has Gorilla Glass 3 for extra protection against scratches and drops, while the insides are wrapped with water-resistant nano-coating. The back cover of Moto G is removable, and comes in a variety of colours, which include black, white, dark and light blue, pink, yellow and red.

Moto GMoto G also comes with Grip shells in five colours, and flip covers and coloured protective cases in addition to JBL wireless speakers.

According to Motorola, Moto G is faster than Galaxy S4 in making and answering calls, booting up, and in some more basic tasks. The smartphone comes with 50GB of free Google Drive storage for two years. Motorola has priced Moto G at $179 for 8GB version, while the 16GB variant costs $199 only, off-contract in the US.

As mentioned above, Motorola is planning to launch Moto G in more than 30 countries with 60 partners by 2014. The smartphone will go one sale in Brazil this week and parts of Europe, and will be available in Latin America, Europe, Canada and parts of Asia within the next few weeks. Moto G will be available in the US, India, the Middle East and more of Asia in early January 2014.

Coming to specifications now, the Moto G comes with a 4.5-inch HD edge-to-edge display with 329 ppi pixel density and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, 1.2GHz quad-core Cortex-A7 Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, Adreno 305 GPU and 1GB RAM. 

The smartphone also comes with a 5MP rear camera with LED flash, 1.3MP front facing camera, 8GB/16GB internal storage without microSD card expansion, and 1,950 mAh battery. Connectivity series include, 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and GLONASS.

Moto G comes running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out-of-the-box, but Motorola has promised guaranteed update to Android 4.4 KitKat in January 2014.
