Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for Moto G now rolling out in US, and 4.4 KitKat update rolling out to Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx and Droid Mini

Motorola has started rolling out the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for Moto G starting today, along with Android 4.4 KitKat update for Droid series smartphones. The update for Moto G was originally planned to get released in early-2014, but Motorola has beat their target and has managed to update the smartphone to latest Android OS in time for the holidays. Verizon has also started rolling out the Android 4.4 KitKat update for its own line of exclusive Motorola devices, the Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx and the Droid Mini.

Motorola has started rolling out the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for Moto G starting today, along with Android 4.4 KitKat update for Droid series smartphones. The update for Moto G was originally planned to get released in early-2014, but Motorola has beat their target and has managed to update the smartphone to latest Android OS in time for the holidays.

Verizon has also started rolling out the Android 4.4 KitKat update for its own line of exclusive Motorola devices, the Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx and the Droid Mini.


Moto G


The Android 4.4.2 KitKat update is rolling out for those Moto G which are purchased from Motorola's website and Amazon in the US. Carrier versions of Moto G, as well as other regions will be receiving the update soon. The update is available over-the-air and will reach your smartphone soon.

Android 4.4.2 KitKat update features for Moto G,
  • Android 4.4 KitKat – Restyled status and navigation bars, a new full-screen mode, colour emoji support, improved closed captioning support, stronger security, smarter power use, and more.
  • Phone dialer – Improved phone app with the ability to look up contacts directly from the dial pad, see and tap frequent contacts, and search your corporate directory easily.
  • Camera – Locked exposure during Panorama capture, additional language support, Manual control of focus and exposure, Bug fixes
  • Gallery – New photo editing options including new filter effects, draw on your photos, advanced cropping, and adjustments to color, exposure, contrast and more.
  • Printing documents and pictures – Support for printing photos, Google Docs, GMail messages, and other content via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and hosted services like Google Cloud Print and HP ePrinters.
  • Hangouts – SMS/MMS support Incorporated a new version of Google Hangouts that supports integrated SMS/MMS messaging. Hangouts can be set as the default SMS app under Settings > Wireless > Default SMS app.
  • Accessory support Added support for Square credit card reader.
Motorola Droid family

Coming back to Verizon, with this update, the Droid series smartphones will directly be taken to Android 4.4 KitKat from Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

In addition to the enhancements brought on by KitKat, the update also brings immersive interface, camera improvements, and cloud-print support along with other changes like FitBit support, and updated Verizon apps.
