Samsung has started rolling out the Android 4.4 KitKat update for the Galaxy S4 starting today. The update is currently rolling out for the Exynos-based Galaxy S4 in Russia, Snapdragon 600 running Galaxy S4 is expected to get the update shortly. The update is available for download via over-the-air (OTA) and also via Kies PC software.
The update for the Indian version is in process, so we can expect the update to roll out anytime soon. More countries to join the list shortly. If you are unaware, the Galaxy S4 got Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update in India last year in October, and this is the second major update for the Galaxy S4.
You can manually check for the update by going to Settings > More > About Device > Software Updates.
The update brings Android 4.4.2 KitKat with Project Svelte optimizations, new phone dialler, updated Hangouts with SMS/MMS support, updated Google Now and updated Photo gallery with Auto Awesome feature. The update also brings KitKat features like wireless printing, immersive mode, colour emoji support, improved closed captioning support, stronger security, full-screen mode and more.
TouchWiz wise, the update brings white status bar icons, camera shortcut on lock screen, music album art on lock screen and better keyboard layout.
