Google has just announced the dates for the I/O developer conference and it will surely be making headlines with the same. The internet giant is believed to launch a slew of Google's services at the event but its next version of Android and tablet won't be announced then. It will skip their announcement later for July.

Google Nexus 8

Google is working on a Nexus 8 tablet which it will be showcasing later in July. The reason for the same is being cited as the rising competition in the 7-inch tablet segment which is rising at a pretty brisk pace. The 2013 edition of the Nexus 7 was a pretty capable unit but the same could not really replicate the buzz that the 2012 edition of the tablet created. So launching another edition of the same wouldn't have made a lot of sense.

Coming to what Google has in store, the Nexus 8 tablet will be the poster kid for Android 4.5. Yes, you read it right. The next iteration of the operating system will be 4.5 and not 5.0. The Nexus 8 tablet will be an 8-incher and will look to lock horns with the likes of the iPad Mini, Galaxy Note 8.0 and the likes. Another fact is that there are not many 8-inchers on sale so Google should surely create a niche for itself.

The first batch of 2 million tablets of the Nexus 8 is believed to be completed by April and Asus will be the company's partner for it. There is not much information about its specs but the tablet is rumoured to be powered by Intel processors. There is no word on pricing as well. The Google event is still about 4 months away so we can safely expect for more details to pour in during this time interval before the official announcements take place.
