World's slimmest smartphone Gionee Elife S5.5 with octa-core processor to launch in India on March 30th
Renowned Chinese smartphone vendor Gionee is geared up to launch the world's slimmest smartphone on March 30th in India. Called as Gionee Elife S5.5, the handset is just 5.5 mm thick and was announced at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 tech show in Barcelona last month. While the Gionee Elife S5.5 will hit the retail shelves in China on March 18th, the handset will go on sale in India on March 30th.
The company has started sending out press invites to the Indian tech press media for attending an event on March 30th, where the company will be launching the world's slimmest smartphone Elife S5.5 in the country.
On the pricing front, Gionee will price the 3G variant at CNY 2,299, which is approximately Rs. 23,000, but the actual pricing of the handset and its availability in India will be disclosed only during the launch event.
Specifications-wise, the Gionee Elife S5.5 is a single SIM smartphone that is based on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean topped with the proprietary Amigo 2.0 UI. The handset includes a 5.0-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Under the hood, the device is packed with an octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor clocked at 1.7GHz supplemented with 2GB of RAM.
On the photography front, the Elife S5.5 features a 13MP rear snapper with LED flash and a 5MP front-facer for video calling sessions. The smartphone has 16GB of on-board storage that unfortunately cannot be expanded using a microSD card and has a 2,300 mAh battery.
Connectivity series include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, USB OTG, 3G and GPS for data connectivity. Attractively, the Elife S5.5 will arrive in a slew of color options such as Black, White, Purple, Pink and Blue.
