Samsung Galaxy S5 Active features and specifications leaked in a hands-on video

Samsung Galaxy S5 is already water and dust resistant, and still Samsung is said to be working on the Active variant of the smartphone. There are talks about the Galaxy S5 Active, the rugged variant of Samsung’s flagship model since quite sometime. Now, the unannounced handset has appeared in a series of hands-on videos and the AT&T variant of the device bearing the model number SM-G870A is featured in the clip.

The videos reveals that the Galaxy S5 Active will feature similar physical Android buttons and four screw caps on the corners at the back that Samsung used in its predecessor, the Galaxy S4 Active. As you can see in the videos, the Galaxy S5 Active is a more tough and rugged variant of the original Galaxy S5. 

According to guy in the video, the S5 Active is made out of metal with rubberised corners for better grip and ruggedness, and also for better fall protection. The phone comes with an hardware button dubbed as Active Key found on the left side of the handset above to the volume keys. The Active Key can be customized to do various task using the Active Key menu in the settings. 

Like, a short press will launch Activity Zone app and a long press will launch the camera app. The Active Key also functions as a camera button and can be used to click images underwater, where the touchscreen doesn't work. The exact IP certification of S5 Active is yet unknown.

Moving on to the specifications, the Galaxy S5 Active features similar specs as the Galaxy S5 which include a 5.1-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display, 2.46GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB RAM, Android 4.4.2 KitKat and 16MP rear camera with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) unlike DIS (Digital Image Stabilization) in the regular S5.

The Galaxy S5 Active is expected to go official in the near future and may be we can see it at the Galaxy Premiere 2014 event wherein Samsung’s new tablet lineup is scheduled to be launched.
