Xiaomi has officially announced that it will be starting its Indian operations soon and had recently hired Manu Kumar Jain, the co-founder of Jabong to head its operations in India. The company has started making its web presence felt in India and its website has just gone online for India at Mi.com/in. The website does not reveal much details about the company and its portfolio but that can be expected in the coming few weeks.
The earlier reports had suggested that Xiaomi was gearing up for a festival time launch in India around the September-October time period but it looks like that the company will commence its operations sooner than expected.
Xiaomi is currently operational in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia and adding India to the list which is one of the fastest growing smartphone markets will surely help it gain a better global footprint.
Xiaomi has been known to bring top end specs in its smartphones and tablets at rock-bottom prices globally. Seeing the fact that the company sells its devices globally through its online store as well as carriers, it is expected to follow the same for India. However, the carrier option might be replaced by other online stores as carrier specific sales are not really popular in India.
Let us wait and watch how it prices its devices in India and if it is able to replicate its successful run from other countries in India.
