After launching the Redmi 1S in India last month for Rs. 6,999, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi on Tuesday at an press event in New Delhi has revealed that it will start the sales of Redmi 1S in the country starting September 2nd. The company has also revised the price of Redmi 1S, and will now retail for just Rs. 5,999 and not for Rs. 6,999 as revealed earlier.
With a good news, comes a bad news. Xiaomi has also revealed that it has temporarily discontinued the sales of Mi3 in the country.
Talking about the Mi3 discontinuation first, Manu Jain, GM at Xiaomi India has stated that the company will now focus on the newly launched Redmi 1S, so the Mi3 won't be available for few weeks. The last sale of Mi3 was on August 26th, where more than 200,000 users registered to purchase the limited 20,000 units of the smartphone.
Xiaomi has not revealed the exact time frame of Mi3 availability, but don't expect it to be less than 2-3 weeks. Till date Xiaomi has sold 95,000 units of Mi3 in a total of six flash sales. The last sale ended up in just 2.4 seconds.
Coming back to Redmi 1S, the sales will be similar to the Mi 3 weekly flash sales. Interested buyers have to register themselves for the sale in order to buy the smartphone. Xiaomi has revealed that 40,000 units of Redmi 1S will be available for purchase as the part of September 2nd flash sale. Flipkart has announced that more than 100,000 users have already registered for the sale.
It has to be noted that 2,000 units of Redmi 1S will be on sale on September 1st as an early access to Flipkart First subscribers. So, only 38,000 units of the smartphone will be available on September 2nd. You can register for the Redmi 1S sale by clicking here.
Xiaomi has also revealed that accessories of Redmi 1S will be available alongside the smartphone. The coloured back covers will cost Rs. 469, whereas the screen protector will cost Rs. 179 and the flip cover will be available for Rs. 559.
On the specifications front, Xiaomi Redmi 1S comes with a 4.7-inch HD IPS display with Dragontrail glass protection, 1.6GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 (MSM8228) processor, Adreno 305 GPU, 1GB RAM and MIUI v5 based on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. The smartphone comes with dual-SIM support (3G + 2G) and is 9.9mm thick.
Other specifications include an 8MP rear camera with LED flash, 1.6MP front facing camera, 8GB internal storage with upto 64GB expandable using microSD card and 2,000 mAh battery. Connectivity series include 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, USB OTG and A-GPS + GLONASS.
