Taiwanese tech vendor Asus has been teasing its first Android Wear smartwatch dubbed as Asus ZenWatch for quite sometime and on Wednesday at the IFA 2014 tradeshow in Berlin the firm has officially debuted the device. Alongside the Android Wear powered ZenWatch, Asus has also launched the MeMO Pad 7 tablet.
Talking about the Asus ZenWatch first, the smartwatch is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz that is similar to the ones in Samsung Gear Live and LG G Watch R. There is a 1.63-inch AMOLED 2.5D curved display that is layered with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection to make the smartwatch durable. There is 4GB of internal storage space on the Asus ZenWatch along with 512MB of RAM and IP55 dust and water resistant certification.
Other notable aspects of the smartwatch are Bluetooth 4.0, bio sensor to monitor the heart rate, microphone, 9-axis sensor and the soft stitched leather strap with a quick release clasp. The smartwatch is compatible with any smartphone that is running on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean or higher. The ZenWatch features a version of the ASUS ZenUI user interface developed specifically for it.
Asus ZenWatch comes with range of practical smart features which include Watch Unlock, Tap Tap, Remote Camera, Cover to Mute, Find My Phone and Presentation Control. It also comes with enhanced versions of exclusive ASUS ZenUI apps such as What’s Next and Do It Later along with several watch faces.
According to Asus, the ZenWatch will be available for €199 in select markets by years’ end.
