Adding to the barrage of news from the IFA 2014 tech show is the slew of launches that Sony has made. Other than the highly anticipated announcements such as Xperia Z3, the firm has also taken the wraps off two wrist options in an attempt to grace the smartwatch market. These two wearable devices are the SmartWatch 3 and SmartBand Talk respectively.
Sony SmartWatch 3 is the company's first smartwatch running on Google's Android Wear platform. The SmartWatch 3 comes with a 1.6-inch TFT LCD trans-reflective display with a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels that can be viewed even under direct sunlight, 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, 512MB RAM and has 4GB of internal storage capacity.
It is also claimed to house a 420mAh battery that is claimed to deliver a backup of about 2 days on typical usage and there is a microUSB charging port as well. Other specifications of the watch include Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, GPS and IP68 waterproofing certification.
With the aforementioned features, the SmartWatch 3 will surely be a true companion for an active lifestyle and it comes in Classic Black and Sport Lime colours. There is no word on pricing details yet, but the watch is expected to be priced at around 230 Euros.
Next on the list is the SmartBand Talk that is a revamped SmartBand SWR10 with the inclusion of a 1.4-inch curved E-Ink display. Sony has fitted the device with mic and speaker to let users to make and receive phone calls from the device on their wrist. The altimeter provided in the wearable will allow the user to track elevation as well.
As far as the specifications are concerned, the SmartBand Talk comes with a 1.4-inch black and white E-ink display with resolution of 292 x 128 pixels, ARM Cortex-M5 processor, 2MB internal storage, Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB port and 70mAh battery. The device is 9.5mm thick and weights 24 grams, and is water and dust proof courtesy of IP68 rating.
The Sony SmartWatch 3 and SmartBand Talk are slated to be launched Europe this Autumn for a pricing of 230 Euros and 160 Euros respectively.
