At the Google I/O held in late June, several Google initiatives stole the spotlight which include Android Wear, Android Auto and Android TV, but one of them is the Android One concept. It gained enough popularity for the reason that it targets rest five million users in the emerging markets including India to use Android.
In order to make this possible, the search engine giant has partnered with several native OEMs in the country that will be making Android One smartphones in the price range between $115 and $165 (Rs. 7,000 - Rs. 10,000). It has to be noted that the previously alleged price tag of sub-$100 could not happen suggested recent reports.
Now, Google appears to have sent out media invites for a press event to be held in India on September 15 and it is expected to announce the Android One smartphones at the event. The invite does not reveal any details on what we can expect as it simply reads, ‘Block Your Date’.
Going by the previous reports, it was speculated that the Android One smartphones will be launched in India sometime in September. Also, Google has revealed that India will be first country to receive the Android One devices from partners such as Micromax, Karbonn and Spice that are the first partners for the program.
These Android One smartphones will arrive with a qHD or WVGA display and run on Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system with the Android L update soon after its commercial release. They will be powered by dual-core processors paired with 1GB of RAM and will be dual SIM devices.
Google's SVP for Android, Chrome and Apps Sundar Pichai is expected to attend the launch event of Android One on that day.
