Alongside the launch of Desire Eye smartphone, HTC also announced a GoPro like action camera called RE Camera. The concept behind the HTC RE is pretty similar to the GoPro, but it boasts of a different design and has a wide angle lens camera in a weird structure like a bent cylindrical tube. The device utilises the integrated grip sensor which activates the camera as you pick it up.

Though the hardware appears to be weird, it is smart resembling an L joint of a PVC pipe. You will have to hold the camera like a spray gun or like a soda can that appears to be the natural way to handle it. The camera shutter key is located on the bend and it is easy to access it to capture a snap or video (on a longer press).

When the video mode is on, the LED flashes to red and the press of the button at the front activates slow motion mode. All the captured media gets transferred to the 8GB internal storage, which can be expanded using microSD card and can be shared with the RE app that is available for both iOS and Android devices. The RE also supports WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0.

The camera in the RE camera features a 16MP sensor that features a 146 degree wide angle lens and can capture Full HD, HD and 120 fps slow motion videos. The camera is also water proof and it does not require a case for protecting it from any damage due to water. There is an 820 mAh battery that is rated to provide 1 hour 40 minutes of 1080p video recording and capture 1,200 16MP photos. There are the common action camera features such as time lapse, slow motion videos and accessories to wear it.

According to HTC, the RE will be first released in the US in four colours which include Teal, Orange, Navy Blue and White for $199 by the end of October.
