After waiting for more than three months, Google India has officially announced that the wait for Lollipop update on Android One smartphones is about to end. Google India has announced via a tweet on Twitter that the Lollipop update for Android One smartphones which include Micromax Canvas A1, Spice Dream UNO and Karbonn Sparkle V will be rolled out in the next few weeks.
Google has not revealed the exact date of the roll-out, but we expect it to happen soon, mostly by February-end. Surprisingly, the Android One smartphones in India are expected to get updated directly to Android 5.1, which comes out-of-the-box from Android One phones in Indonesia, launched recently.
The Android 5.1 Lollipop update brings major fixes for performance and usability issues, bug fixes and more that stemmed the initial 5.0 rollout. With the launch of Android One phones, Google promised to offer software updates for two years after its release.
There is no word on when the Android One phones in Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will be updated to Lollipop, but it shouldn't take much long.
The Lollipop update will bring material design UI elements, better notifications, battery saver feature, better security, smart lock feature, guest mode, improved quick settings, heads-up notifications, lockscreen notifications, screen pinning, ART runtime as default and and more.
