OnePlus 2 VR

We have been hearing about the next generation OnePlus smartphone, dubbed as OnePlus 2 since a long time. OnePlus 2 is the company's second smartphone after the OnePlus One. OnePlus has stepped forward and has revealed that the OnePlus 2 will be unveiled officially on July 27th in a virtual reality event at 7:00 PM PT (July 28th 7:30 AM IST). This will be the first ever product launch to happen in VR, claims the firm.
OnePlus is best known to release bits and pieces of interesting information about its offerings and the same has started triggering the interest of potential buyers with its announcements. OnePlus has followed the same custom with the OnePlus 2.

It has been officially confirmed by the Chinese manufacturer that the OnePlus 2 will arrive with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC. This was already expected as a leaked benchmark of the smartphone tipped at the presence of the chipset. Moreover, the yesteryear OnePlus flagship also used a Qualcomm chipset that was best at the time.

While there are concerns regarding overheating of the Snapdragon 810 SoC, OnePlus has announced that is will use the v2.1 of the chipset that is an improved one. Also, it is stated that the company has taken the necessary precautions to prevent the overheating issues on the OnePlus 2. The heat that is generated by the chipset will be evenly dissipated rather than being concentrated that will result in performance issues.

Also, OnePlus has confirmed that the upcoming flagship smartphone will feature a USB Type-C reversible port that will make the firm lead its way in power connectivity. The highlight of its port is its reversible nature that will remove the issue that persisted in the previous USB connectors. It does not matter the side of the cable that is up and it is small to be used on smartphones. The OnePlus 2 will apparently be the first high-end smartphone to use a USB Type-C port.

Furthermore, OnePlus has officially revealed that the OnePlus 2 will arrive with a security oriented feature as it will arrive with a fingerprint sensor. These days, it has become a standard feature in many high-end Android devices, and so it is not a great surprise to get one on the OnePlus 2.

The notable aspect is that the manufacturer claims that its upcoming smartphone features the most advanced and latest fingerprint sensor that is touted to be faster than the Apple’s Touch ID.

The OnePlus 2 will feature 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM under its hood. The highlight of this RAM is to render faster loading time, smooth gameplay and a slew of energy saving aspects. The other advantage of this RAM is lower power consumption paving way to better battery efficiency. The LPDDR4 delivers twice the bandwidth performance than the LPDDR3 and it is twice faster than the prequel that has a speed of 32Gbps.

The information bits are not yet over. OnePlus team took to Reddit recently for AMA session, where few more details about the OnePlus 2 were revealed. According to the company, OnePlus 2 will be smaller than its predecessor and come with a 3,300 mAh battery, i.e 10% capacity increase over the One's 3,100 mAh cell.

Besides these confirmations, the OnePlus 2 was spotted on the Bluetooth SIG website. This reveals that three models have been certified with the hardware version 2.2 and software version 2.1 for Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity. The three models of the smartphone are said to be codenamed A2001, A2003 and A2005.

Out of these three models of OnePlus 2, one will be destined for China only, and the other two will be international models. One of those will be aimed at North America, while the other will be made for Europe and Asia. The differences between these models will be network band support.

Recently, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has confirmed on Chinese social networking website weibo that the OnePlus 2 will come with dual-SIM support. Lau did not confirm if the OnePlus 2 will have support for microSD card slot, as several smartphones now-a-days come with hybrid SIM support, that lets the second SIM slot acts as a microSD card slot when required.

Furthermore, well-known YouTube reviewer MKBHD (a.k.a Marques Brownlee) has got his hands down on the OnePlus 2, which was sent to him by OnePlus itself for review purpose. MKBHD has not revealed complete details of the smartphone, but has quoted in his "OnePlus 2 Camera Review!" video that the same features a 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and Laser Autofocus with 5MP front shooter. You can watch the video below.

Lastly, the OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau confirmed that the OnePlus 2 will be priced below $450. He did not reveal the exact price tag on the Google+ post, but it is likely to be priced $449 or somewhere close to that price tag.

Finally, OnePlus has officially confirmed that the OnePlus 2 will be available for purchase via invite system, but not similar to the earlier one. OnePlus has revealed details about the new and improved invite system for the OnePlus 2. According to OnePlus, the number of handsets available from the very beginning will be 30-50x larger than last year.

The company also plans to launch a "reservation list," allowing interested customers to register for an invite by entering their e-mail address and getting an invite as soon as they become available. Last but not the least, everyone buying the OnePlus 2 will also receive subsequent shareable invites that they'll be able to share with their friends, with shareable invites arriving faster than before.
