The South Korean tech giant Samsung announced an SDK for round screen smartwatches earlier this year in May, that confirmed that the next smartwatch from Samsung will be round. While an official confirmation from Samsung is yet to arrive on this regard, a new leak suggests the specifications of the Gear A smartwatch.

The device might boast of a round Super AMOLED display measuring between 38 mm and 42 mm in diameter. The resolution of this round display is likely to be 360 x 360 pixels and it is claimed to be powered by Samsung’s in-house dual-core 1.2GHz Exynos 3472 processor with Mali-400 MP4 GPU clocked at 450MHz.

The other aspects under the hood of this smartwatch are said to be 4GB of internal storage space, 768MB of RAM and a 250mAh battery. The upcoming Samsung smartwatch is expected to connect to tablets and smartphones with Bluetooth 4.1. It will also arrive with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Wi-Fi Direct connectivity. There will be an integrated GPS receiver, barometer, gyrometer, accelerometer and heart rate monitor as well.

From the name Gear A, it is clear that this smartwatch will run on Tizen OS instead of Android Wear. Notably, the company has come up with a new user interface that is customized to run on the round screen smartwatches. There are leaks tipping that this device will arrive with a digital crown and bezel ring for the navigational purposes.

We can expect the Gear A to be launched sometime in the third quarter along with the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+, i.e. August 12th. Stay tuned with us for more updates on Gear A.
