Samsung Gear 360, a 360-degree action camera officially announced
Along with the announcement of the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge, Samsung has also announced its first action camera, called the Gear 360. The Gear 360 is a 360-degree camera which can create 360-degree videos and images at once. According to Samsung, the Gear 360 will be available starting Q2 2016 in select countries in white color option. There is no word on pricing details yet.
The camera has a ball-like body design that looks like an eyeball and is equipped with dual f/2.0 bright fisheye lenses, both have 15-megapixel image sensors, giving users the ability to capture high-resolution (3840x1920) 360-degree video along with 30-megapixel still images, even in low-light conditions. The media captured using Gear 360 can be enjoyed in virtual reality using the Gear VR.
According to Samsung, Gear 360 can also shoot 180-degree wide angle video and click still images having resolution of 15-megapixels with only using one of the duo camera lens.
The device is IP53 certified for resistance against water and dust upto a certain extent. The Gear 360 being light and compact can be carried anywhere and is also compatible with a wider selection of accessories and mounts.
Talking of the specifications, the Gear 360 comes with 0.5-inch PMOLE display, microSD card support (up to 128GB) and 1,350mAh removable battery. The camera weighs 153 grams and measures 66.7x56.2x60 mm. Connectivity and sensors include, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4/5GHz), WiFi Direct, Bluetooth v4.1, USB 2.0, NFC, and Accelerometer, Gyroscope.
This action camera is compatible with select Samsung smartphones, which include the newly announced Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, along with the Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 Edge and the Galaxy S6.
