After LG, it's time for Samsung showdown. Samsung has officially announced the launch of much awaited Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge at MWC 2016 in Barcelona. These two beast are the successor to highly-popular Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge features sleek design with powerful performance including advanced camera features, water resistance, and external memory. This time Samsung is launching the smartphones in four different color options, which include silver, gold, white and black. According to Samsung, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge will be available starting mid-March 2016, March 11 to be exact. Pre-orders for the same in many countries starting today.

As far as pricing is concerned, the Galaxy S7 will be available in Europe starting at Euro 699 (US$778 / ~ Rs. 53,400) and the Galaxy S7 Edge will start at Euro 799 (US$890 / ~ Rs. 61,130). Samsung has revealed that those who pre-order the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will get a Gear VR for free (in select countries).

Talking about the design, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are constructed with 3D glass and metal – with ergonomic curves for a comfortable grip. The front and back are made of 3D glass and the edges are rounded. Also, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge comes with IP68 water and dust resistance, i.e. both the devices can survive under 5 feet of water for up to 30 minutes.

Coming to software front, Samsung has stuffed the smartphones with couple of new features such as Always-On display, similar to what LG has included in the newly announced LG G5. The Always On feature will also support theming, so third-party themes from Themes store will be able to change the look of the Always On screen.
"The Edge UX on the Galaxy S7 Edge now provides increased efficiency by creating easy shortcuts to users’ most loved functions such as email, selfie mode, panorama mode or third party applications," notes Samsung.
Talking about the specifications now, the Galaxy S7 comes with a 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display with 577 ppi pixel density and whooping 3000mAh battery. Whereas, the Galaxy S7 Edge comes with a 5.5-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display with 534 ppi pixel density, Edge screen and has mammoth 3600mAh battery in just 7.7mm thin chassis. 

The Galaxy S7 measures 142.4 x 69.6 x 7.9mm and weighs 152 grams, and the Galaxy S7 Edge measures 150.9 x 72.6 x 7.7mm and weighs 157 grams. Other specifications are similar to both the smartphones.

Both, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are powered by the Octa-core Exynos 8890 chipset clocked at 2.3GHz Quad + 1.6GHz Quad or Quad core Snapdragon 820 chipset clocked at 2.15GHz Dual + 1.6GHz Dual. Both chips are 64-bit and made on the 14 nm process. Under the hood is 4GB LPDDR4 RAM for multitasking.

The devices run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Samsung's new and improved TouchWiz UI on top. When it comes to storage, the devices will be available in 32GB and 64GB internal storage options with much need microSD card support (up to 200GB). On the imaging front, Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge features the world's first Dual Pixel 12MP camera on a smartphone with F1.7 aperture and Smart OIS, delivering brighter and sharper images, even in low light. The front camera is equipped with 5MP sensor with F1.7 aperture for video conferencing and clicking selfies. According to Samsung, 
Because of revolutionary Dual Pixel technology, brighter lens with wider aperture, and bigger pixel, the camera has a faster shutter speed and a more accurate autofocus even in low-light conditions.
Talking about the connectivity, the smartphones comes with LTE Cat.9 (450/50Mbps) / 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4/5GHz), MIMO, NFC, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, ANT+ and USB 2.0. Sensors include Accelerometer, Proximity, RGB Light, Geo-magnetic, Gyro, Barometer and Fingerprint.
