Samsung is all set to take the smartphone display screens to the next level. It is reportedly working on smartphone displays that have a resolution of 2K and 4K. This piece of news comes from the South Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's Semiconductor and Display Technology Roadmap Seminar 2014 and the same has been reported by media.daum.net.
Samsung will use 2K Quad-HD 2560 x 1440 AMOLED smartphone displays for its future smartphones. But what actually comes as a surprise is that the company has already confirmed the fact that it is working on Ultra HD 4K smartphone displays too. Samsung Galaxy S5 is expected to play host to the 2K screen when it launches later this year in March.
However Samsung hasn’t confirmed the news of these displays making way to the smartphones in near future but we think that they will. Samsung will be working on 2K display devices for the next couple of years before it launches 4K unit.
A 4K display on a 5 inch screen, which is the conventional size these days would have a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, which would translate into a pixel density of 820ppi which would require more than a bit of technology to perfect.
Even as far as 2K displays are concerned, we are yet to see what would be the benefits of bringing in so many pixels in a small screen. Ready or not, Samsung is ready to launch those displays and be ready to be treated to 2K and 4K displays in smartphones from Samsung in near future.
