Micromax is raising the bar in the smartphone arena with passage of time and will soon launch a water and dust proof which has just been leaked. It will come with Splash moniker or might just be known as the Canvas Splash. The smartphone will come with IP67 certification and will be water resistant for up to 30 minutes to a depth of 1 metres.
It will also be dust and sand resistant. The phone will not have any hardware buttons up front and you can see on the rear that the smartphone has IP67 certification. You get a 5MP camera with a LED flash at the back. That is all of what is known about the smartphone but it shall bring rugged smartphone functionality to a sub Rs. 10,000 price level.
The market for rugged smartphones has never really developed with a device coming in every now and then. Motorola launched the Defy which got attention for a small span of time and the Xperia Go built on that. All this happened back in 2012 and it was followed by Samsung launching XCover which didn't really become popular later on.
Micromax has always been known to start new segments in the country and bringing devices at price points that the smartphone giants could not. So the Canvas Splash (if that is the name) might just become a good seller if it gets a decent set of specs and a price tag that justifies the ruggedness of the same, it is bound to become a better seller than many and will start a new segment of budget rugged smartphones.
