Sony has started its product offensive for the year 2014 by announcing the Xperia Z2 smartphone, the successor to the very popular Xperia Z1. The same has been given a minor overhaul which makes it a good buy but not worth enough for an upgrade. It gets a 5.2-inch TRILUMINOUS display unit with a Full HD resolution and it now gets Live Colour LED functionality. The Live Colour LED functionality allows one to boost the colours of the display while it avoids over saturation at the same point of time.
The Xperia Z2 becomes slimmer and lighter than the Z1. The Xperia Z2 gets a bump in power with the help of the quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor which gets clocked at 2.3GHz with Adreno 330 GPU. Teaming up with it is a 3GB RAM. It gets front facing "S-Force Front Surround" speakers for a better music experience.
The camera unit at the rear is the same 20.7MP one found on the Xperia Z1 but it now comes with support for 2K/4K video recording. The camera on the front is a 2.2MP unit. It runs on Android 4.4 KitKat. The Xperia Z2 has 16GB internal memory with up to 64GB expandable using microSD card and 3,200 mAh battery with STAMINA mode.
The smartphone 8.2mm thick and weighs 158 grams, and is water and dust proof like the other Xperia flagships. It gets digital noise-cancelling for a better audio experience and gets the complete set of connectivity features including Wi-Fi, 4G, Bluetooth 4.0, GLONASS, MHL 3.0 and NFC.
It comes with a slew of software functionalities for the camera as well. Sony has loaded the smartphone to the gills to take on the other flagships and it has done a good job at upgrading the Xperia Z1 to Xperia Z2. The smartphone will be available in three colours, Black, White and Purple.
Coming to pricing, Sony UK has priced the Xperia Z2 at £599, while the Sony Germany has priced it at €599. In parts of Europe (France, Italy and Spain), the Xperia Z2 will be available for purchase for €699. In Netherlands, the device will be available for €649, and in Sweden it will be SEK 5,995. (via)
