Karbonn Mobiles, the number 3 smartphone manufacturer in the country has some really aggressive plans going forward and intends on taking on the competition head on. After launching two Mediatek based octa-core handsets, it now intends on launching a 5-inch smartphone which will be based on the Snapdragon 615 chipset which also makes use of true octa-core technology and was announced at the MWC 2014.

“We are working on a 5-inch smartphone which will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipset with eight cores,” is what Sudhir Hasija, chairman, Karbonn Mobiles told the good folks back at BGR India. It will be the flagship device henceforth and will come a slew of software gimmicks and an all new UI from Karbonn. It will have a FHD 1080p resolution for its screen size and will run on Android 4.4.2 KitKat being customized according to the company’s upcoming User Interface.

It will be launched around the last week of May and will be pegged around a price tag of Rs 20,000. The company is also working on dual operating system smartphones that will be launched later this year and will be priced high as well (probably around Rs 20,000-25,000).

The Indian manufacturer wants to increase its revenue by 60 percent courtesy of the new launches and increase it to Rs 8,000 crores. Karbonn Mobiles is aiming for a 15 percent market share in the smartphone arena in India by the time the current fiscal ends and the same can be achieved for sure in our opinion provided it prices the devices right and keeps on bringing about innovations that actually matter.
