Ongoing speculations in the Indian smartphone market are regarding the launch of Sony Xperia Z2 in the country. While Samsung and HTC have already released their flagship models in India, Sony has still not announced the Xperia Z2. It has to be noted that this delay is not only in India, but even in the key European markets as well and it has occurred due to some shortage in component supply.

However, here is good news for those Sony fans in India waiting to hold the Xperia Z2. According to a report from The Economic Times, the Sony flagship phone is all set to enter the Indian boundaries on May 8th. It is claimed that the Japanese tech giant will host an event in New Delhi to launch the smartphone.

Reportedly, Sony has already started sending out invites to the tech media in the nation intimating about the May 8th launch event, although the earlier rumors tip at a May 15th launch. The smartphone is said to be priced under Rs. 56,000, though our sources reveals that the price would be around Rs. 45,000.

Detailing on the specifications, the Xperia Z2 unleashed at the Mobile World Congress 2014 tech show features a 5.2-inch Full HD TRILUMINOUS display boasting a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It is powered by a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor paired with 3GB of RAM and runs on Android 4.4 KitKat platform.

The handset comes in two variants – 16GB and 32GB of internal storage options that can be expanded up to a whopping 128GB using a micro SD card. Also, there is a 20.7MP primary shooter with 4K video recording and a 2.2MP front-facer for making video calls and clicking self portraits.

Adhering to Sony’s tradition, the Xperia Z2 features the IP56 and IP58 certifications for being water resistant and dust proof. Also, it is powered by a 3,200 mAh battery and has connectivity aspects such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, 3G, 4G, GPS, MHL 3.0, GLONASS and NFC on-board.
