The tech world is flooded with numerous reports regarding the flagship smartphone from Samsung that is likely to go official at the MWC 2015 tech show. A report by The Chosunilbo suggests that the South Korean tech giant is planning to unveil the Galaxy S6 during the MWC tech show on March 2nd. The report says that Samsung has developed multiple prototypes of Galaxy S6 and is undecided which one will end up being official.

Samsung Galaxy S5

This alleged launch date of the S6 goes in sync with those of the previous two Galaxy-S series smartphones that also got unveiled at the previous MWCs. But, until Samsung sends out media invites regarding the press event we cannot be specific about the launch date of the Galaxy S5 successor.

As per a Bloomberg report, the Galaxy S6 will arrive only in a single variant rather than coming in two variants as the previous generation flagship models. Well, the report adds that the Galaxy S6 will use only the in-house Exynos chipset and will drop the Qualcomm variant.

Notably, this is not the first time that Samsung is speculated to skip the Qualcomm variant of the Galaxy S6. Previously, a Digitimes report also stated that the next generation Galaxy S flagship smartphone will not be using the Snapdragon 810 and that it will come only with a 14 nm Exynos processor due to overheating and other issues that are caused by Qualcomm SoCs.

It appears like Samsung is also working on a curved display version of the upcoming flagship model and that it could be named Galaxy S6 Edge. As per online reports, the Galaxy S6 Edge will feature curved edges on both sides of the screen and it will arrive with 4GB of RAM, whereas there will be only 3GB of RAM in the Galaxy S6. The other specifications of the dual edge smartphone are claimed to be similar to that of the flagship smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge

A SamMobile report confirms that Samsung will be launching a Galaxy S6 variant with two edge displays one on both sides. The Galaxy S6 Edge will make use of the same system as the Note Edge with the only different being that it will have two panels as compared to one on the yesteryear model. The software features of the Galaxy S6 Edge are also claimed to be identical to the one on the Note Edge, though it will arrive with some new features to make it unique.

It is said that the Galaxy S6 Edge will have the ability to activate the main edge panel on the right or left edge and Glance Lighting that will light up the Edge area when the user gets a call or notification even when the device is turned off. Users can also choose to favorite contacts and assign specific colors to each of them so that the calls or notifications from important contacts will be designated with the specific color lighting on the edge area.

While some of the previous generation flagship models from Samsung are water resistant, a report from Korean source Webtrek claims that the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge will not be waterproof. It is tipped that the vendor will bring the water resistance as an exclusive feature to the Active variants of the flagship models aiming at those consumers looking for a water resistant smartphone. But, it is not known if the Active variants will be launched alongside the flagship model or by the end of this year.

Samsung Galaxy S6

In another report, Vodafone Netherlands accidentally ended up putting a placeholder page for the Galaxy S6. The placeholder page didn't revealed any information detailing the specifications or pricing or availability, instead the page's source code holds a comment carelessly left behind by a developer, that hints of an upcoming preorder for the "Galaxy S Edge".

This indicate that the upcoming dual-edged Galaxy S-series smartphone will indeed be called the Galaxy S Edge and not the Galaxy S6 Edge. Samsung decided to go with the same naming scheme with its first edged device - the Galaxy Note Edge.

Further, BGR has come up with complete set of specifications of the upcoming Galaxy S6. BGR notes that the details were sent to them by a trusted source, though we suggest you to take them with a pinch of salt.

As per their report, the Galaxy S6 will be a beast featuring a 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display with a 557 ppi pixel density, Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection, stunning outdoor visibility and super dim mode for late night along with 64-bit octa-core processor based on 14nm process which is 50% faster and hold a metal and glass body.

The smartphone is also said to come with a huge 20MP OIS rear camera sensor with real-time HDR, a 5MP f/1.8 aperture front facing shooter, 32GB / 64GB / 128GB internal storage space and 2,550 mAh battery with built-in wireless charging support with Quick connect charging which can give four hours of usage on a 10 minute charge.

Other specifications include Samsung Pay, NFC payments and Cat 6 LTE support. Rest of the specifications include 3GB of RAM and Android 5.0 Lollipop with heavily optimized TouchWiz UI on top, expected to be as smooth as Nexus 6.

To end up, a recent SamMobile report reveals that the upcoming Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S Edge will be compatible with the Samsung Gear VR headset. The Gear VR headset currently works only with the Galaxy Note 4.
