Xiaomi Redmi 2 with 64-bit Snapdragon processor, 4G LTE support announced
As expected, Xiaomi has officially unveiled the successor of its biggest hit Redmi 1S, called Xiaomi Redmi 2 in the Chinese market during the start of the month. The Xiaomi Redmi 2 comes with improved processor, bigger battery, high resolution front camera and 4G LTE support, rest of the specifications are similar to the Redmi 1S.
The smartphone comes in array of colors which include White, Dark Gray, Bright Yellow, Light Green and Pink colours and is now available in China from QQ Space. Xiaomi has priced the Redmi 2 at just 699 Yuan, which translates to US $113 / Rs. 6938. There is no word on global rollout yet.
Design-wise, the bezels of Redmi 2 are more slimmer than the Redmi 1S and the LED flash has been moved to the left of the camera. Also, the new model is more compact, measuring 134 x 67.2 x 9.4mm versus 137 x 69 x 9.9mm and also lighter, weighting 134 grams versus 159 grams.
On the specifications front, Xiaomi Redmi 2 comes with a 4.7-inch HD IPS display with 312ppi pixel density, 1.2GHz quad-core 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 (MSM8916) processor, Adreno 306 GPU, 1GB RAM and Android 4.4.4 KitKat with MIUI 6 on top.
The smartphone also comes with an 8MP rear camera with LED flash, 2MP front facing camera, 8GB internal storage with expandable up to 32GB using microSD card and 2200 mAh battery. The Redmi 2 has dual-SIM support, with each SIM slot capable of 4G LTE connectivity (TDD-LTE & FDD-LTE support, both Chinese and International variants). Other Connectivity series include 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and A-GPS + GLONASS.
