As promised HTC has finally started rolling out the Android 4.4 KitKat update for Google Play Edition HTC One. The company promised to release the update within 15 days of official KitKat announcement, and even delivered the code to Google, but Google took a bit longer time to release it. The update is getting rolled-out over the air, if you can't get the update, you can download it from here (link below the image).
The update is getting rolled-out in phases, so not all the GPE HTC One will get it right away. The update weighs in at 305MB, and brings Android 4.4 features along.
As, the Google Experience launcher is exclusive for Nexus 5, the update includes stock Android launcher with ART runtime, message integration with Hangouts, improved Google Now interface, better backup, updated Phone app with local search and more.
Both, HTC and Samsung has released the source codes for the stock and framework components of the HTC One GPE and Samsung Galaxy S4 GPE. You can find them here and here resp.
There is no word on when the same update will be released for Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition.
