Alright folks, you might not like this bit of news. The next Nexus smartphone may never hit the launchpad and the Nexus 5 will probably be the last one in line. A tweet from the famous leakster, @evleaks reads as “There is no Nexus 6. Farewell, Nexus.”, which was followed up a tweet reading “Don’t worry, there’s a silver lining to this cloud..." It hints towards the fact that the Android Silver program will be taking charge from the Nexus range of devices.
This news, rather rumour comes after the Nexus 6 and Nexus 8 showed up in Chromium code couple of days ago. The Android Silver program is a partnership of Google with it’s hardware partners in order to produce high end devices with a limited number of non-Google applications. These devices are expected to be quite the value for money offerings just like the Nexus counterparts.
@evleaks has also revealed that the Android Silver program could arrive by February 2015. No other details are available as of now.
The Nexus 4 was responsible for creating a wave in the smartphone arena as it offered top of the line specs at half the price of a flagship device. It was succeeded in a similar manner by the Nexus 5 and it looks like all this is coming to an end.
Purists would have loved to see a Nexus 6 before they bid goodbye but as it turns out, the Nexus 5 is where it all stops. But all this is still a rumour and we might (hope) just see a Nexus 6 before the Android Silver program comes into operation.
