As promised, Sony has started rolling out the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for Sony Xperia E1, Xperia E1 Dual, Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Dual in select markets. The update is currently live in some European and Asian countries. As always, the update is rolling out in batches, so it might take some time to reach other countries.
The update is rolling out over-the-air (OTA) and also via Sony PC Companion software. You can wait for the update notification to arrive or can manually check for the update by going to Settings > About Phone > Software Update.
The update brings Android 4.4.2 KitKat along with Project Svelte optimizations, updated Hangouts with SMS/MMS support, wireless printing support, immersive mode, colour emoji support, updated downloads app and more. Here is the complete official change-log of the update:
- Google’s Android 4.4 KitKat – bringing performance & UI optimisation
- Tweaked Status Bar and Quick Settings – now more intuitive and customisable (and pretty easy on the eye)
- Sony PlayStation 4, new user interface – we’ve added the same sleek launch animation and live wallpaper across the lock and home screens
- Better storage choice – you now have the option to easily move applications from internal memory to SD card
- Sony’s entire native app portfolio to the latest versions – Messaging, Smart Connect, TrackID, What’s New, and Battery STAMINA Mode, Sony’s Media apps: WALKMAN, Album and Movies
- Unique Custom Interface experience – “Xperia Themes”, with downloadable UI packs from Sony Select
- Compatibility with our SmartWear Experience – SmartBand SWR10 and Lifelog app (for Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Dual)
