Google announced the latest iteration of its mobile operating system, Android 5.0 Lollipop officially alongside the Nexus devices last Wednesday. Soon after the launch, numerous reports have started surfacing online suggesting the update schedule. A new report from Android Police claims that the previous generation Nexus devices including Nexus 7 (2012), Nexus 7 (2013) and Nexus 10 WiFi only variants will be receiving the Android 5.0 Lollipop update starting from November 3rd, 2014.
The other devices in the line-up and the LTE models are tipped to get updated by the end of November. The report adds on that it will be an OTA update for the WiFi only models of Nexus 7 and Nexus 10.
Some notable features of the Android 5.0 Lollipop update include a cleaner and flatter design with a more fluid interface and animations. A new revamped 'Quick settings' menu is a part of the platform and there are new controls including flashlight, hotspot, cast screen controls and more. The lock screen displays richer notifications and users can view and respond to the incoming messages directly from the lock screen.
There is an opt-in kill switch called 'Factory Reset Protection' that will allow users to erase all the data on the device. The new Messenger app, a guest user mode with custom options for access and screen pinning are also onboard. There is a new battery saver feature on Android 5.0 Lollipop to extend the battery life by up to 90 minutes.
