Following the launch of Android 5.0 Lollipop, Motorola that teamed up with Google for the Nexus 6 confirmed its plans of rolling out the update. A slew of its smartphones including Moto E, Moto G (LTE, 2013 and 2014), Moto X (2013 and 2014), Droid Maxx, Droid Ultra and Droid Mini will be receiving the Android 5.0 Lollipop update.
However, Motorola has not revealed any specific timeline for the rollout of the Lollipop update for the above mentioned devices. But, it is expected that the update will be released soon after the release of Nexus 6.
Regarding the same, Steve Horowitz of Motorola wrote in a blog post, “Now that Android 5.0 Lollipop will be going to the world with Nexus 6—a product of some of our own engineering—we are excited to confirm that this latest and greatest Android release will also come to our other devices as part of our ongoing software strategy to provide fast updates to our pure Android experience. We're still working out the details on timing and the upgrade depends on our partners' support so stay tuned to our software upgrades page for the latest and greatest.”
Some notable features of the Android 5.0 Lollipop update include a cleaner and flatter design with a more fluid interface and animations. A new revamped 'Quick settings' menu is a part of the platform and there are new controls including flash light, hotspot, cast screen controls and more. The lock screen displays richer notifications and users can view and respond to the incoming messages directly from the lock screen.
There is an opt-in kill switch called 'Factory Reset Protection' that will allow users to erase all the data on the device. The new Messenger app, a guest user mode with custom options for access and screen pinning are also on-board. There is a new battery saver feature on Android 5.0 Lollipop to extend the battery life by up to 90 minutes.
