[CES 2017] Honor 6X with dual rear cameras announced for $250, launching soon in India

Huawei's Honor brand has officially announced a new mid-range Android smartphone with dual rear cameras. Called Honor 6X, the smartphone was originally introduced back in October 2016 as China exclusive. Today at CES 2017, Honor announced that it will be expanding the availability of the Honor 6X.

Honor 6X is the successor to highly popular Honor 5X smartphone announced last year. The smartphone comes with mid-range specifications. Honor has carry forwarded the dual-rear camera trend and has embedded the same in the 6X. The device feels like a budget friendly variant of Honor 8, launched in India last year in October for Rs. 29,999.

The device comes in three colors - Gold, Silver and Gray. It will be available in two different storage / RAM options, including 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage. The 3GB RAM variant Honor 6X is priced at $250, whereas the 4GB variant costs $300.

As an introductory offer, Honor will sell the base variant of Honor 6X for just $200 during flash sale for first 300 buyers on January 10, 17, 24 and 31. Honor will also give a case, Engine earphones and a selfie stick to those 300 buyers as gift.

As far as availability is concerned, the 6X will be available for pre-order in the U.S. via Honor's own website, Best Buy, Amazon, and Newegg starting today, with first units will be shipped starting January 10th.

In Europe, the device will be available for purchase starting today via Vmall.eu and Amazon. Honor 6X with 3GB RAM is priced at €249 and the 4GB RAM variant is priced at €299. According to Huawei, the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant of 6X will be made available by the end of March.

Talking of specifications, Honor 6X comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS display with 2.5D curved glass & 450nit brightness, 2.1GHz octa-core Kirin 655 processor (built on 16nm process) with Mali-T830 GPU, 3GB / 4GB RAM and run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with EMUI 4.1 on top. The device measures 150.9 x 72.6 x 8.2mm and weighs 162 grams.

Huawei has announced that Honor 6X will be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat with EMUI 5.0 in the second quarter of the year. EMUI 5.0 will bring huge improvement in performance and interface on the Honor 6X.

Other specifications include a 12MP + 2MP (for depth of field / blur effect) dual rear camera with LED flash, Sony IMX386 sensor, 6P lens, 1.25μm pixel size, PDAF and f/0.95-f/16 aperture, an 8MP front facing camera, 32GB / 64GB internal storage (eMMC 5.1) with expandable memory using microSD card (up to 128GB) and 3340mAh battery with fast charging support.

Connectivity-wise, Honor 6X comes with hybrid dual-SIM support (2 SIMs or 1 SIM + microSD card), 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS. Additional features include fingerprint scanner with gesture support and ability to unlock the device in 0.3 seconds, split-screen feature (multi window), pop-up call feature and scrolling screenshot.

Honor India has confirmed that Honor 6X will be launched in India before the end of this month and will be priced under Rs. 20,000, for both 3GB and 4GB variants.
