Samsung Gear 2 smartwatch is quite similar to its predecessor except for the UI. This difference is because the Gear 2 runs on Samsung’s own Tizen OS, while the original model is based on Android. But, Samsung assured that it will be rolling out the Tizen update to the older Gear. According to SamMobile, Samsung has started rolling out the Tizen update for the Galaxy Gear and the owners of the same can download and install the update on their smartwatches.
Samsung appears to have managed to retain the icons and display screens similar without much variation. It is believed that the Tizen update will bring about battery enhancements, standalone music player, voice commands for the inbuilt camera and more.
Basically, the Gear smartwatch will receive most of the features that were included in the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo except for the inclusion of a heart rate sensor.
Users of the original Gear device can receive the Tizen update either via Kies or manually check for the same online. The update will wipe the data on the smartwatch, hence it is recommended to backup all the information before updating the device.
