Samsung Galaxy Gear gets updated to Tizen from Android

Samsung Gear 2 smartwatch is quite similar to its predecessor except for the UI. This difference is because the Gear 2 runs on Samsung’s own Tizen OS, while the original model is based on Android. But, Samsung assured that it will be rolling out the Tizen update to the older Gear. According to SamMobile, Samsung has started rolling out the Tizen update for the Galaxy Gear and the owners of the same can download and install the update on their smartwatches.

Samsung is all set to release a firmware update to its original Galaxy Gear smartwatch which will in turn switch the OS from Android to Tizen. This home grown operating system has already been employed by the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches. This move by the South Korean tech giant shows that it wants to migrate from Android for its wearable devices. Also, with this move the firm can concentrate on enhancing the user experience of Android platform for smartphones and tablets.

Samsung launched the Galaxy Gear in India in September 2013 for Rs. 22,990. And after four months since launch, the company has officially dropped the price of the smartwatch to Rs. 14,999. The Galaxy Gear will now retail in India for Rs. 14,999. Even though online retailers are yet to drop the price of the Smartwatch, Samsung is selling the Galaxy Gear through their official Samsung India eStore for Rs. 15,290.

Samsung to roll-out Galaxy Gear compatibility update in India this month, includes 6 Galaxy smartphones

Samsung has officially announced that they will be releasing a software update for 6 new Galaxy smartphones in India this month, which will make the device ready to use Galaxy Gear. At the time of launch, the Galaxy Gear was only compatible with Galaxy Note 3. Later on, Samsung released a software update for Galaxy S4 which added compatibility for the smartwatch. And now, 6 more Galaxy smartphones will be compatible with Gear.

Samsung has officially announced that, they will be bringing Galaxy Gear compatibility to seven more devices. The first device to be compatible with Galaxy Gear was the Galaxy Note 3, and recently, Samsung rolled-out the Android 4.3 update for Galaxy S4, which brought Galaxy Gear support. Now, seven more Galaxy devices will soon be getting an update, which will bring Gear support for the device.
