Samsung in a surprising move has started rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for its 2013- flagship devices in Russia. The Android 5.0 update is now rolling out for the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note 3 devices in the country. It is quite disappointing to see that the newly launched Galaxy Note 4 is yet to receive the Lollipop update.

Android Lollipop

According to SamMobile, the update is rolling out to the Exynos variant of the devices in Russia (GT-I9500 & SM-N9000). The update for Galaxy S4 weights at 1049.17MB, which is rather too huge and has restrictions for the internal storage.

Samsung notes that approximately 3GB of memory space is required to complete the OS upgrade, and after the upgrading to Android 5.0 Lollipop OS, the available memory will decrease by a minimum of 950MB, this is due to new ART runtime. The ART runtime complies the apps at the time of first boot and stores the result.

Also, Play Books, Play Movies and some other apps that can be downloaded from Play Store will be removed for the purpose of memory optimization, notes the company.

The update is rolling out over-the-air and in a phased manner, so it might take sometime to reach your smartphone if not already. You can also manually check for the update by going to Settings > About Phone > System Update.

This newer version of the update brings Material design elements, enhanced performance, lockscreen notifications, head-up notifications, redesigned TouchWiz interface and lots more.
